I have a copule of questions regarding industry: How do you avoid (or at least reduce) the high levels of pollution? I read something about high-tech industry. What is it and how do I zone it?

You can't zone for HT, just normal Industrial zones. But you can keep out the high polluters, the ID, by setting the tax on them at 20% before you start the city growing. HT needs parks, and water, and a high level of education of the sims.

Trees will fence in your pollution, but they can't do everything. You still have water pollution to deal with. I recommend varying your Industrial styles, limiting your dirty industrials to areas where the water is far away. Also, keep your water pipes away to eliminate the possibility of contamination. You can have dirty industrial in your cities, but you can't eliminate the pollution altogether without cheating.

Build the pumps outside of the water pollution radius. Place a water treatment plant next to them. Connect your pipes to it so it filters all the water in the city. To get rid of industrial air pollution, first you must have a university. Second, education levels must be at least 100 for all sims. Third, all other industries must have a 20% taxrate. Once those condtions have been fulfilled, create watered industrial zones with lots of parks and trees, away from pollution, but near a neighbor connection. As the hightech sector grows, gradually destroy your dirty and manufacturing industry. If you have unlocked the nuclear power plant, you can eliminate power plant pollution IF you have enough money.

High Tech industry, needs a highly educated wealthy population to support it.  HT will develop over time assuming that you educate your sims.  In the mean time, to control pollution you can build a water treament plant to control water pollution.  Also, enable the 'Clean Air Act' ordinance to help reduce air pollution.

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.  Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."

I personally find it's a bit unrealistic if you eliminate Dirty Industry altogether... Every major city has it's dirty, gritty smokestack-filled areas that provide essential local production needs (gas, cement, chemicals) to any metropolitan areas.
