Hi

Recently I have had major issues with SC4. It crashes to desktop or makes BSOD. It's very annoying. Now after all the problems and workarounds I have a fresh install of XP sp2.

What ATI drivers I should use in my somewhat old system for SC4 to run nice?

I tryed the latest ATI drivers on those gives the worst crashes!

I have:

ATI RADEON 7000

CPU 1300 mhz

MEM 768 MB

IS some certain drivers known best for SC4?

Radeon 7000? I've never even heard of them.

If you're sure you don't mean Radeon X700, then go back to old drivers. And I mean really old. Since Catalyst 6.5, ATI has no longer included driver based support for the 8000 and 9000 series. So more than likely, you'll need to get a driver even older than that.

If you meant you have a Radeon X700, download the Omega Drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net. If the latest drivers don't work, I suggest you go back in time incrementally, using the Omega Drivers.

I use the Ati RadeonX700 Pro and the best driver for simcity (At least on my machine) is the 5.8. Now back in Janruary some how my driver got upgraded and the game didn"t like it at all. Now back in early 2005 when I bought this video card it was pretty much state of the art. What I find amazing is that it still sells for around $180. With the 5.8 driver my simcity runs very fast and smooth. Of cource 2gb of ram helps and without the data packer playing would be impossible with my 1.1gb of plugins.

No im using ATI Radeon 7000 (it does exist, google it)

It's a crappy card, I know, I now have some driver that came along with the installation of XP, it's from 2004 I guess.

I dont think those omega drivers would do any good for me?

Is cataclyst center needed for SC4? cos I've only downloaded the actual driver..

What is this vendor id and putting it to SC4 graphic rules?

Does anyone know what were the last drivers ATI supports Radeon 7000?

Im thinking of downloading those 5.8 versions or about..

Software rendering makes the game buggy, but if I get ther lastest drivers at some point I could test it...

Your card won't be able to take advantage of the Catalyst Control Center.

You can try putting in the Vendor ID. Google for the Vendor ID of your card. It helped me with some lagging issues when I was using my Radeon X700.

The Catalyst Control Center allows fine tuning of graphics card options. It replaces the Catalyst Control Panel. In your case, the Catalyst Control Center would be completely incompatible and useless. Most of the older drivers come packaged with the Catalyst Control Panel.

Aside from fine tuning the card's options, it really has no advantage. In the case of SC4, it really doesn't have any advantage. By default, all the settings are set to Application Selected, which is the recommend setting for playing SC4.

So no, no advantage at all.
