I want to inhance the look and feel of my city's but I don't know where or what I want to download.

However, cruising along this site made it a bit easier so here is a list.

I want:

Round-a-bouts for all road types.

It would be neat to have the Burj Al Arab in my city.

Some cool new housing and skyscrapers.

Does anyone know where I can find save downloads?

the roundabouts are a part of the newest edition of the NAM which you can find here

https://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?page=1&view=all

at the very top

The rest of the buildings you can find in here:

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1

there are many pages and even a search button to help you find what you are looking for

The Burj seems to have a defective download.  You should read the thread on it, I think there is a solution there.

Before you go ramping around downloading stuff, you should hop over to Bugs and Technical Issues and read my thread titled "Plugin mania".  This will help you not make a very bad start in the plugins business.

It is important to remember that all the stuff for download from here is contributed by the members and is unsupported.  We try, but there are no guarantees.  The STEX is moderated, and abuses are usually caught.

The main thing to remember is that old saw "Slow and steady wins the race".  Take your time, read all the information, especially on the NAM, and test everything in a sandbox, one at a time, cumulatively.

Good luck, and have fun.

Thank you both for the info and links.

I have thrown myself into the depth of 'Plugin Mania' and it's all giberish to me because I'm not that sort of type.

However, I am heavily puzzled on how to use the Light Rail and the underground Rails.

If someone could help me with that, that would be great.

I downloaded NAM about a year or two ago. Everything that it changed has been working for me perfectly. I am under the impression that if I download the newest NAM everything will run even better. Will it change anything in my cities?

afstandopleren: I'm not sure about underground rails, as I haven't used it.  The Ground Light Rail, however, is rather easy.  It's just like a ground version of the Elevated Rails, and now that it's draggable, it's easier to lay down (because it doesn't have so many bugs).  All you have to do is drag it or plop it where you would any other rail or El-Rail.  You have to download GLR stations from the STEX, and there are plenty to choose from...just take your pick.  Also...I'd suggest downloading the various GLR-to-[insert other rail type] transitions, as well.  They'll make connecting everything that much easier.

abraccadabraz85: As far as I can tell, so long as you choose the same settings as your previous version (and whichever of the new stuff you want), nothing that you've used the NAM for before will be changed.  The new NAM adds a lot of stuff to it, and the files have been split to make it easier to upgrade whenever the next one comes out.  That makes for a lot of downloading now, and a lot less later.

Patience, this is a big board covering all time zones.  Sometimes there is no body watching this section.

When you download your stuff, I hope you put it in a separate folder away from the game.  Then you must unzip the archive and examine the contents including the installation instructions.  Following the installation instructions, you create an appropriate sub-folder in your My Documents\Simcity 4\Plugins folder and copy the proper content into it.  If there are no installation instructions, you can copy the entire contents of the unpacked download to the subfolder.

This must be done when the game is not running.

When you start your game, the new content should show up.  Do remember that if the content is growable, it is not in any menu, but will be generated by the game randomly.
