I've managed to find out how to change the config file now so I'm just going to show off some of my city. I love that building to the right

I've been downloading greyscale images from http://www.rebel13.com/SimCity/Home.html then copying both the region.ini and the config file from other region folders into the new folder. This is the config file I typically use:

config.jpg

My question is how do I make my own so I don't have that big city in the middle of my region? I would love to have a region where there are only 8x8 medium sized cities and thats it.

Thanks 1.gif

Here are the details for making config files.

grayscale to config.bmp ratio :

64:1 plus 1

Large city = 4x4 pixels  blue

Medium city = 2x2 pixels  green

Small city = 1x1 pixels  red

You can't change the config file after you terraform, or you lose the terraforming.  You can only add to the bottom and/or the right side.

For an 8x8 medium cities you need the default size config file, 16x16 pixels, with the grayscale size being 1025x1025 pixels.

I'm really excited about my new region now. No more huge cities that depreciate when building in the middle of them.

Here are some pictures of my region so far. I've gone out on a limb and began building only one zone per city. If anyone has information about what I'm going to go through by doing this it would be appreciated.

    Tampa, Florida - Commercia

    Tampa, Florida - Residentia

    Tampa, Florida - Industria

Will these cities start to depreciate over time? My commercial city has not demanded hospitals or schools as there are no residents living there so money is definantly pouring in.

Garbage has been and probably will be my biggest issue. I've decided to place small garbage lots in each city and only have neighbourhood deals with water which i have in my residential city.

Lots more to discuss but I better just post this now.

    Couple of quick questions --->

    1. If I set up a city to export garbage even though they already have landfill will that city's landfill disappear so I can dezone it?

    2. How do I get a space port when there's no residential in an industrial city? Eg. Space Port requires 25000 high tech jobs & Advanced research Centre. Advanced research centre requires 2000 high tech jobs, mayor rating 54 & University. University requires 15000 Residential population.

    Answer to question 1: YES

Answer to question 2: The only way to do this is by using the cheat "you don't deserve it" to unlock all rewards. Otherwise it is impossible. Besides that, having the space center in a residential area isn't unrealistic, after all, JSC in real life is in Clear Lake City, an area of Houston which is primarily residential, contains UHCL, and has the center's labs (which I guess would correspond to SC4's ARC) As for your city. Put taxes for I-D and I-M up to 20 in the res city, and put taxes for I-HT to 20 in the industrial city. That way you can push all the hightech jobs into the residential city, which is actually the best place to build them (I-HT makes no pollution).

Thanks to Cobhris96 for clearing that up for me. I've moved garbage out of Residentia now and land value is great. I'm going to give myself a bit of time before I attempt a city that will eventually have a space port.

Josefmayor, thanks for the comment. I haven't really had a look at a map of Tampa or seen pictures of what Tampa actually looks like and maybe I should have before I started this region.

Things are going really well for Tampa though and I thought I'd post an update. I'm about to move into a fourth city. Another industrial one above commercia. I think I'll name it Factoria. It's main purpose will be to take garbage from Commercia and maybe supply power to them as well.

I have a Tampa History Thread in my signature, you should check it out, right now most of your stuff is in the Palm River area just east of Downtown, Downtown is the small penisula next to the big penisula there.

That river going northward is the Hillsborough River that flows through downtown Tampa.

I'll upload a map of the downtown Tampa neighborhoods and maybe a larger one including all the Tampa Neighborhoods.
