Water for Industry?

I've had the game since it originally came out, but still consider myself a ***** because I haven't played it a TON yet, because I get frustrated.

Imagine my surprise when I find a website that still has an active group of people that play the game.

Anyways, on to my question:

1)  I've heard it both ways, and have not experimented on my own.  Does industry need water to thrive/grow?

I have plenty more questions, but will start with that one.

No, Industry does not requier water to thrive and grow.  But larger industrial plants do.  If you plan on having high-tech industry, then it is an absolute must.

Industry without water has an annoying tendency to catch on fire.

You can set up two cities  -- one with residential and commercial (that sells water) and one with industrial (that sells power).    That way the industry doesn't catch on fire as much and the water doesn't get as polluted.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

At the moment I can not think of an industry in RL that does't use water, most need great quanities. Tungston is right, they need water, and you have to deal with the pollution.

Farms don't need water (they make their own).

Low Tech industry doesn't need water to grow. High Tech industry DOES need it - it's best to treat this type of lot like R$$$, and give 'em all the goods (sans education, but especially parks!) They don't pollute either, so mixing them in with R is perfectly ok.

As others have mentioned, lack of water also increases the risk of fire in the industrial zones (aside from farms, that is.)

I think if you check the exemplars for default industrials, you will find that:

Farms consume water, not produce water.

All Industrial lots pollute water to some extent.

I prefer to import water for Industrial, especially Farm as they pollute water and make water source not effective.
