Config problems with maps from the Exchange

You must always check to make sure the pic is an 8-bit greyscale JPEG or BMP chances are it isn't.  This seems to be the most common problem that we see.  Another problem deals with the size of the region.  If a creator makes a map larger than 1025x1025 then he/she needs to supply a config file so the game can render it.  If you download a map and find when checking the format that it is larger than 1025x1025 you will need to see if there is a config file available for it.  If not then you'll either need to make your own or resize it to 1025x1025.  You can find some info on making regions here.  The Omnibus also has some information there on making regions.

There are rules that the creator of the map must check this stuff out, but we don't have the time to check all of them.  When people have problems with a map and you know it isn't the right format or what ever the problem may be let a moderator or administrator know and we can try and remedy the problem.

Thanks

Hey!

I really wanted to play the Region Bergen, Norway but it was the wrong size. Do you have the possibility to change it to the right size?

I am reporting a problem with several maps on the exchange. The following maps have config. problems: Amsterdam (Holland)1281 x 1281, Venezia 1537 x 1025, Rio de Janeiro (Riocinz)1153 x 769,and Mumbai 769 x 1025. They should all be 1025 x 1025. The creators did not include alternate config. maps. I will read up on how to create an alternate config. map, but I thought you might want to know since you stated this sort of problem should be reported. 32.gif

I'm having problems with this region...
Creator: Equinox 90
Area: Houston, Texas, USA
Size: 1537x1537 (about 30x30 miles)
Custom config bitmap: yes (24x24, all large cities)

Not sure whats going on, but I have rendered it over and over trying various ways of rendering and it just refuses to work.

NO error messages it acts like its rendering but its completely flat with no rivers no nothing, just flat.  It's rendering again now, I am trying a different .jpg to see what happens.  I did the custom bmp that part works, all my little tiles are right, just the terrain is flat.

what are your machine specs? have you tried rendering the map, and not doing anything else on the machine?

the larger then map, the more resource intensive the render can be, and if the game runs out of resources or gets interupted during the process (like by a screensaver) some times in kills the render and the map winds up flat

Machine specs AMD 2500 OC'd to 3000, 1gb corsair LL memory, 128mb nvidia 6800.  80gb + 120gb seagate 7200rpm drives.

And no I have not done it not multitasking.  I will try it next if this doesn't work.  I've tried it with the .jpg in and out of the folder, but in reality that should make no difference and it didn't.

edit: I think you maybe created this map 1.gif cool...if it doesn't work this tiem Ill try it without multitaskin...I do have a laptop I can use.

Good call grey, its working.  It was the multitasking that screwed it up.  Looks great though now 1.gif

Why is this .jpg so dark? After I rendered it, only mountain tips were above water. Is there something missing from those 10 instructions it gave!?! Because I didn't miss saving the plugin or anything.

Edit: n/m working now

I can't tell you what size the config file needs to be, because you didn't post up the grayscale size.  If the config file that came with the map is the correct size, then you didn't copy it into the region folder.
