Unfortunatly due to technical problems Burbank City will not be returning, i know it had alot of fans so i have decided to create New Brubank, which i hope will be even better. It will still be the capital of Liberland and sit on the banks of the Oscuro. I hope everyone like it. Todays update is quite a wordy one so beware!

Today we will be looking at the Leigh Tower Complex, and as you can see it is raining and it does so often in the city. The Leigh Tower Complex was created as a solution to more traditional single family homes, many of which had been damaged during World War Two. These new tower blocks where completed in the summer of 1960. There fantastic views and modern designs made them very attractive to the Sims of New Burbank.

leightowerblocksvm7.jpg

By 1974 many of these the tower blocks had deteriorated, leaky pipes and damp became frequent problems, as residents where not able to fix these problems themselves, the estates manage was kept very busy and often fell behind on repairs. Another problem was crime; the long dark corridors became havens for muggings and drugs dealers, by now all but the poorest residents had moved out. In 1982 the Government came up with what they thought would be a solution to the problem, they allowed residents to buy there apartments from the city council, many residents took this option. However this only added to the problems, now facing mortgage payments residents where unable to invest in the property and the council could no longer demolish the tower without the substantial cost of buy the flats back. In 1996 the council decided to buy back tower A (the tallest in the photo) and spend considerable money on refurbishing it. Now tower A is popular with young professionals due to the views and proximity to the city centre. In 1998 Tower E was also refurbished, and is now popular also. Presently the council are looking into refurbishing towers B and C.

This is the HQ of HSBC Liberland, a subsidiary of HSBC Holdings. It opened in 1985 which was a capitalist boom period for the city. This made the building a prime target for the Communist Revolutionary Federation, in 1987, an anonymous tip off alerted the police to the presence of a truck parked out the building which allegedly contained a bomb. The police soon discovered the bomb and it was disarmed.

    hsbcparlimentyh8.jpg

The building itself was designed by Sir Fredrick Simons, a British Architect who had also worked on HSBC buildings in China The building has 47 floors and is 180m tall, it is estimated to have cost 2.1 billion roubles. The atrium features a large complex of mirrors which means that the main source of light is the sun. The offices themselves overlook he river  the building is near to the Old Burbank Bridge, it is close to the North Embankment Metro Station on the North Loop and Metro Lines.

In 2004 two men disguised as security guards entered the bank proceeded to the central server room and hacked into the main computers, they left with over 2 million credit card numbers which are thought to have been worth 10 million roubles. The men where never apprehended and experts suggest it is impossible to know how many fraudulent transactions where carried out using these numbers.

Awesome look there, I love the work on the embankment with the trees blending in nicely, and the modern looking high-rises look fantastic on the river side. I shall be paying very close attention to this CJ.

    Keep up the great work

Today sees the conclusion of one of one of the most hotly debated political issues in recent times, the privatisation of Liberland’s Railways will be decided to day at the Parliment Building.

    parlimentovercasthl1.jpg

The railways had been nationalised after the Second World War when they had been crippled by bombing and a lack of investments during this period. The three large private rail companies; North West Railways (NWR), Great Central Railway (GCR) and Burbank and Southern Railways (BASR) where all bankrupt and where brought together under the 1947 Railways Act. Liberail, a new government owned company that would control the railways was formed.

    liberailqd0.jpg

However, with the 2007 Railways Act having just been passed inside the Parliment Building  routes will run by private companies, bidding for individual routes is expected to start next week, with Virgin Trains expected to get most of the Inter-City lines.

    budapestparliamentconferd0.jpg

The act was passed in Parliament by just 10 votes, it is widely thought that the Libertarian Party would try to pass this act sooner rather the later, they faced heavy opposition for the Social Unionist Democratic Party who have promised that the railways will be renationalised when they are next in power. It is hoped that the privatisation will lead to better service, cheaper fares and get rid of the widespread corruption which presently exists within the railways.

If anybody would like to kno more about the parliment itself you can click here to visit its intorduction in the original Burbank City.

Lundenwic Market is one of the most famous landmarks in Burbank; it was named after Joseph von Ludenwic, the first man to import the infamous pineapple fruit in 1500, having bought them from Christopher Columbus. Lundenwic was a Austrian Baron who had been chased out of his native country after he had attempted to ban alcohol on his estate. In the middle of the night the local peasants came for him and his family with pitchforks and torches, he managed to escape in a series of tunnels which ran beneath his castle. He then travelled to England where he stocked up on the extremely rare and exotic pineapples before boarding a ship to Burbank. Upon arrival he set up a meeting with the Emperor; Nicholas II. Lundenwic asked if he could stay and in return offered a pineapple as a gift. The Emperor accepted the offer and allowed him to stay.

    marketoldxe9.jpg

Lundenwic decided that with his surplus pineapples he would set up a stall next to the parliament building. In 1567 Lundenwic died, since it opened his stall and the pineapple became synonymous with wealth and generous hospitality. By now Catherine I was on the throne and appointed a young servant, Charles Andrews to try and grow pineapples in the Royal Gardens. She also appointed David Scott; an architect to design a new piazza for the sail of pineapples and other exotic foods. Scott had spent the past twenty years in Italy and was greatly inspired by the grand piazzas and buildings. His creation, the Lundenwic Market which was completed in 1569.

Meanwhile, at the Royal Botanical Gardens Charles Andrews had been trying to figure out how to grow pineapples, he had made several attempts and even managed to grow several plants but they had not produced any fruit, but in February his first pineapple appeared just in time for the opening of the piazza. The official opening of the market was in May and was marked by Catherine II giving the land owners the right to hold a market by Letters Patent.

I don't post much on the boards, but I have to say these are some Great pictures. The use of park space around your financial buildings blends in very nicely as do your sea walls and the river walk. Nice touch on the lights from cars on the highway too by the way. Oh, and where did you find those botanical gardens? I would absolutely love to plop something like that in my city. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more from you on this one. Keep up the good work.
