Please help - My farms will not develop.

I have a relatively large city, on a large tile. About 1/3 of the map is covered up by the city. It has a medium-density commercial centre, and low-medium density residential all around it, and on the other side of a river is a large industrial centre.

Now, i figured the other 2/3 of the map should be countryside, with a few villages, the highway, and a lot of farms. The villages develop succesfully, but not one of the farms have, resulting in me having a lot of open space, not good for anything.

Please, why will the farms not develop? 15.gif

Well, it has happened to me a lot of times. You first hav to zone the farmland first and let them move in so you hav the farms there. Then, you hav to zone whatever else you want. (Example- medium commerical zone for downtown, low-density residential for suburbs....) Sorry guy.

As bbfan02 already said: you have to build farms first before you do anything else.

The demand cap of I-AG is limited and will disappear for good if your city reaches a certain size and education niveau.

If you build too much alternative jobs in CO or other Industries ýour I-AG demand will decrease too. The only way to restore it I ever heard of is bulldozing all educational, commercial and industrial lots as well as all neighbouzr connections ..

A bit too radical fopr me - I never tried it ... 28.gif

Darn it. I'll have to do that then.

(glad i don't have to start over at least 9.gif)

edit: very radical indeed, 75% of all residential buildings are now dilapidated, and population down 20.000, but the farms are developing, so it was worth it!

thanks for the help guys. 4.gif

First. make sure you have a good amount of demand for farms.  If you don't, do what was told above.

If you have good demand, make sure that the area is desirable for farms.  Some ways to make it desirable is by avoiding steep terrain, adding some trees, avoiding industry, traffic, and large cities...

    Hope that helps! 19.gif

This is untrue. All you have to do is wait until you have a large population increase. Say about 5,000 or so to allow for uneducated sims to move into your city. If you can spur this growth somehow that will help you out. Monitor your demand graphs closely and you'll see a short period of AG demand even in a well established city. The trick is to just pay attention to when population growths are occuring.
