yeah it will scroll in and out if you bump the scroll wheel accidentally. Your computer is probably crashing because of low ram. What's your computer specs?

When it crashes are you dragging NAM piece around? Sometimes when you drag lets say a GLR piece over a train station, the game will crash. It's something fishy that the NAM people could never fix. Try to be careful with that.

No, nothing like that. I zoom in and then boom, game crashes just like that. So i've got into the habit of saving every few minutes just incase it happens. I don't think it's a problem when I've just starte a city, but when there's detail on the scree, more often than  ot it crashes. Very puzzling

When the game crashes it puts a report in exeptions , there will be an expetion address

,i would first of all make it crash a few times and see if the exption is the same each time.

then i would swap my ram sticks and see if the address changes ,if it does then you could have faulty ram .Ram is designed to last the the life of a pc but ive had problems that  traced back to faulty ram in the past. Its got to be something on the graphics, memory side of things .But in saying that ive also had crash problems due to a faulty PSU once , You goto eliminate stuff one at a time till you get a short list of what it could be.

Intresting gridlock. I just got my computer formatted about a month ago, and added ram. I'll see what happens with these exception reports too, but I'm not a computer whiz so bare with me.

    Thanks for the help

Your next move should be to get the Data Packer. Go over to sc4 devotion get registered and get it. I haven't had a zoom crash since I installed data packer back in February. Before then since my plugin folder was about 700mb the game was becoming unplayable. A half hour learning the data packer and I was in sim heaven. Try it its free. Good luck

Did you buy the game ? Or is it a downloaded copy ? I know some downloaded games are sometimes corrupt. They will install but some stuff won't work.

Is there a problem with your video card ??

Maxing your virtual memory is in a stick on this section.  If you are running Vista, the limit is 4095 instead of 4096.

I hardly ever mouse zoom.  You can zoom using the numeric keys, you know.  It is not continuous anyway, and there are only six (6) levels.

Krukedogg: I bought the game several years ago, funny story, I went to the counter with Sim City and they gave me Sim City Deluxe instead, saved me about $50. Also no problem with the video card.

High Flyer: I have exams this week, so i'll dowload the data packer on the weekend and see how I go.

N_O_Body: I'm running XP and I tried that maxing out my virtual memory. I think it stopped the automatic zooming, but the game crashed when I tried zooming so i don't think that helped.

Thanks for all the help guys, I will try using data packer and check in again on the weekend. Thanks again.
