The imperical truth about this new game is that it will be completely different than everything that has been expected. But then again when have PREVIEWS of games lived up to all the fans expectations.

I believe that most people that are angry or dissapointed with the look of the game need to be a little more positive about it. This game will be totally different than all the other simcities. That is an almost guaranteed fact but that doesnt mean it is gonna be bad. This game needs to be given a little bit of a chance. We all have only seen about 5 or 6 screenshots that to some looked great and some looked bad. In my opinion a whole game can't be judged on a couple of pictures. Many people were probably threatened by the news of no zoning or pipelaying or any of that stuff we love because they think it is "dumbing down" or "degrading the simcity name"   well.. this may or may not be true. The point is.. is that it is way to early to tell wether this game is gonna be great. Yeah they are taking away a lot of fantastic features of the previous games but in my opinion they are gonna add some feature that will completely blow everyones mind (and completely dissapoint others) and I see no reason why they would release the big secret nearly six months before the game is shipped out.  Anyways this is just my opinion on everything. I think it will most likely be a fantastic game. But it is a risk, this is something totally new and different and we just have to give it a chance.

Also, people stop focusing on the problems they see in this game.. it will be a long while before anyone figures out any concrete details about this game. Whats been getting around has to be at least 90% speculation. This has caused complete turmoil in the simtropolis nation in my opinion and we just need to stop focusing on it untill the release date comes nearer and nearer. Meanwhile I say we keep playing the game we know we love and hope the new one lives up to our expectations.

I saw the new screenshots, and all I see are the pathetic unrealistic crappy roads, and the blocky buildings.

M1, so, tell the design team. Rather then sit back and whinge about it, head to the game designers forums and make some reasonable, rational, constructive responses. Whats more, the game is in reasonably early development. Not everything is yet set in stone.

Too right, olive. cologned91, there was much initial outrage, and with a few calmers amognst us, things have settled down now to a level of disappointment rather than anger and hatred. There are even a small number that are starting to see SCSoc as something positive. However, this new game has become very divisive, and I think members of the community will make up their own minds. People such as yourself are urging others too look for positives, whereas a large number are deadset against the game and are already exploring the alternatives (eg. ST 1000). Ultimately, everybody has their own very specific ideas about what makes Simcity the game it is, and this biases our view on the new game. I say, those who are interested in SCS, good luck to you. To those of us who have always thought of SC as something quite different, we'll get over this disappointing news and start working towards something to satisfy our needs.

If people aren't interested in SCS, there's no point in pushing them. I can tell quite clearly from the outset that I do not like the 'society' direction and neither do many others. I think we'll continue to maintain our passion for SC as a city-building game, with or without EA.

Hmmm, i think many are misunderstanding the society direction though. From what I gather the society perspective makes it so that individual cities have different bars (say like the needs bar in the sims), and if you don't get the balance right, your city will develop a distinct, unique social culture. Its mention in the magazine preview article online that if you make your city a police state (overfunded or something, I guess), then your new buildings will grow with cameras on them. I think this adds a valuable and rich facet to the game. Citylife was about balancing cultures, whereas this seems to about directing atmosphere and clearly architecture and visual style.

Just call it Sim City Tycoon and let it follow the fate of all its other namesakes, barring one or two maybe (RCT).

Pictures are worth a thousand words, and to judge such pictures 6 months before public release is a bit premature. However, we should be free to speculate and comment on the style of what we have been shown so far.

"By SimCity creator Will Wright's own admission, previous SimCity games had become too complex for most. Tilted Mill is focusing on scaling back the complexity and micromanagement of latter entries like SimCity 4 -- no pipes to lay, no power grids, no manual emergency-response funds to disperse, no individual building-funding."quote>

But at the same time, if we take this "wait and see approach" we either don't show the developers what we REALLY want or we set ourselves for a much bigger fall if it really is that bad. I liken SCS to... raising a child. You will always have pretty high standards for your kids, whether you actually tell them or not. You won't wait til things go down the tube before you express disappointment. SCS is in away our child just as much as its Tilted Mill. Perhaps its more like a sibling, but whatever... This is something we find particularly important. But if we keep saying "oh, it'll be allright" or "I should give them more chances" we are really not going to send a message that we disapprove of the game that we've been told. Besides, just from what I'm told, I am very displeased. The elements they have shown or revealed are VERY heart breaking. There is no way they could make up for it.
