I didn't look at the radiation chart, but I noticed that it shows up red in all of the desirability charts.

LOL I never knew that and always plopped it down in the middle of R zones to give them some jobs nearby 1.gif

It has never really affected it yet though, maybe in a few more years it will go bad, but right now I still have a Ryan Apartment complex next to it.

The disease research centre collects radiation if you zap or abduct humans from the UFO. The other research centre does this too... the high tech advanced research centre is also radiation infected... therefor something about researching centres are radiation based. But may I ask you have you got Area 51 in your lot or city??? Have you aided and abetted Dr Vu and his quests for power? If so you probably have helped spread the radiation virus around your city. Maybe Aliens thrive and live in radiation areas maybe that

I've noticed that as well, don't worry about it. The amount of Radiation is negligable (it barley covers more than the lot it originated from) and i've had the advanced reasurch facility in the downtown of my 200,000 sim city and seen no negetive effects for, it's been probably 45 years since it was built.

I gotta agree with ephorex_77 here.

Think about it, what is kemotherapy? Radiation treatments. This makes perfect sense at buidling such as a Disease Reasearch Center (think of it as a pre-eminent cancer center). As to the Advanced Research Center -- Harnessing the atom is the future of mankind -- or at least was in the 1950s. Seriously, they may be developing fusion power or any nuclear process (I know fusion vs. fission), and this is the result.

Like what was posted above, it barely spreads around your facility, so I don't worry to much about it. Now if only I could figure out what causes the drop in desirability on the Country Club...

Also note that you don't have to have Area 51 or have ever zapped any aliens. The radiation comes from the medical experiments and like other people have said, doesn't affect the surrounding area. No need to 20.gifworry.

LOL, never thought of it that way 18.gif.

But I think I read somewhere that the larger the lot, they more undesirable it becomes (think university)

These radiation emitting centers are strange indeed.  First you get them as rewards, then you are advised to construct them in the middle of nowhere.  Then they tell you, they bring down mayor's desire levels.  But they also come up as health institutions which make me think that they are good and advance mayor's desire levels.  So I say, they do no good nor harm (or both do good and harm) but should be placed in the middle of nowhere.  42.gif  Nothing will develop beside it anyway.

In real life here, I work in 12 research labs, and they all use radiation. None of us that work in the labs are worried about radioactivity. We all eat our lunch and drink our soda's and coffee's, in the labs. It's not major radiation, nobody needs to walk around in space suit type outfits to use it, or anything like that. It was my job to dispose of the radioactive waste for a while too. No big deal. SimCity is not so much like real life all the time, but certainly nobody is afraid to live next to our building, that I know off.

it blows up then a shockwave comes from the rubble after the explosion destroying everything that gets in the shockwaves way and causes alot of radiation...

I have a slowish computer, one day, becuase one of my cities are large and the speed is slow, I wanted the city itself to develop.  So I zoom in really close somewhere, set the speed to max and get something to eat.  About 30 mins later I find black districts everywhere and a no-live zone in my city where the nuclear plant used to be.

I should have looked into that news ticker topic: Power plant no spring Chiken.

The plant was too old and overused.  My poor sims suffered... 12.gif

...But on the good side it was very excellent to finally see! 11.gif
