This topic is somewhat of a "story".  I'll countinue to post "chapters" as I build my town.

Chapter 1: We all gotta start somewhere

This is the story of a "vice-mayor" who's dream has always been to develop a thriving metropolis much like the empire master he works under.  His exitement came when he was told he was going to recieve a large land grant.  Up until now he only owned an island in the middle of the ocean.  "WOW!  Look at all that land!  This is gonna be great!"  When he arrived, all there was was the coal plant, a rural highway, and some railroad tracks.  Other than that was the wide open space surrounding him.  His first order of business was zoning some low density residential.  "I'll start small, and work my way up", he thought.  So then the sims moved in, exicited about living somewhere new.  And the adventure of becoming a city builder began for our character.

Chapter 2: Wood Water gets put on the map
As this town slowly began to grow, word of it began to spread throughout the region.  "Hey, have you heard of that small town off of route 101?"  "Yeah, I hear it's run by the 'mega mayor's' most trusted executive."  When the big businesses caught wind of it, they immediately withdrew from their very lenghty budgets and began to set up shop.  Water Wood was becoming less and less isolated and more and more busy every year.  "Wow", said the mayor.  "I can't believe all the brand name businesses.  TJ Max, Mcdonalds, Whataburger, Party City...my dream will soon be a reality!"  Soon enough, the mayor must consider mass transit...

Nice start and good pic's, look's like it's going to develop nicely. One suggestion, turn off those U'Drive pop-ups when taking a pic.

    Look forward to more.

    Cheers

Chapter 3: Wood Water's transport infastructure gets a major facelift
In the world of Sim Nation, some sims can't afford a car, other's don't enjoy driving far, and yet still for others the roads are just too darn crowded.  "I've heard a great deal about the benefits of mass transit", says our savy mayor.  "Car dealers are sparse around here and not everyone wants to drive or can afford a car.  A cheap place to start is a bus system".  My, my, he's certainly thinking like an expert mayor, now isn't he?  "We also need to consider the increasing amount of rail traffic as our town grows.  I'm going to take advantage of the offer to build a larger railway station that will serve as the hub for comings and goings of commuters and business travelers alike, as well as build an airport so the business men and women can fly from our regions finest cities.  Bayview, Rockport, Grand Valley, Grand Lake, even Rosewood".  He also added lanes to the old Highway 101; it really needed it...

Chapter 4:Sim Nation showers Wood Water with gifts

It's as if a "switch was flipped", but after Wood Water grew past 40,000 people in so little time, the region's governing giant as well as Sim Nation began to pour the rewards upon our small town.  At first it was just a small church, but then it was the grand Museum of Sim Nation's next location, followed by a large format shopping mall and Enyati Urban Schools.  "Urban?", said the mayor, "that means this is going from small town to major city--just what I wanted!"

Chapter 5:MAPP Takes the train to town
The Sims of Wood Water grew tiresome of malls and parks being the only amusement, because Sims these days are thrill seekers.  Know where this is going?  The MAPP team is known across the region for their  fantastic park in Simburbz, and the've chosen Wood Water as the location for their next one.  Not only that, but Sim Nation also wants to begin construction on the northern passage, a 6-track rail line on raised land with no railroad crossings, similiar to the Northeast Corridor in NE USA.  "Wow, how exciting!" exclaimed the mayor.  "This town is the birthplace for all sorts of great new things!"

Great City again, looks good, and can't wait to see it get bigger. Also, in chapter 3, were those other cities supposed to be Need For Speed refrences?

Ah, good eye Explodingsims. Yes, I actually did model some of my cities after Need for Speed Most Wanted and Need for Speed Underground 2. Rockport and Rosewood are from Most Wanted, and Bayview from Underground 2.

Chapter 6: Reach for the skies

"Mayor, I'm afraid every city has its limit.  While I'm happy to see us growing outward, your Sims are running out of space to develop in new zones.  However, we've reach over 100,000 in population and over 50,000 in Commercial, which is why we must zone higher density--the highest density." Says city planning advisor Neil Fairbanks. "Alright then, there's a wide open space around the city ceneter that just screams...uhh...city center." Replied the mayor.  "Zone high density commercial towards the center and high density residential to the east of that.  Also, tell Jamill Heard (transportation advisor) to have our engineers build a subway, elevated rail and bus system there, too.  So sims can get to work ya' know?"  "Right away, Sir!" replied fairbanks.  In no time at all construction began on office buildings...big, sprawling skyscrapers.  Wood Water would soon develop a memorable skyline...

Your city is coming up nice! Your power grid is nice, I see your power lines run along the track. Do not ever get rid of them. I will get around one day to post you pics of the extremely heavy development and sprawl along my massive power grid. My main lines for the entire region are half a dozen wires running all together, in a couple different pole alignments going from one end to the other. They are not the only, but definately the biggest alignment I have built. Every other city in my region has at least one area power line going through it. You can download a substation pack to help you make a realistic power grid.

I love playing this game, and I don't care what anybody says.

Thanks for telling me about the substation pack, they look sweet! Also, nobody on this site would ever disagree on how great this game is, I'm sure we're with you all the way. Childeren at my school think this is a "so-so" game, but they don't know what they're missing. Happy Simming!
