Game Startup freezes at Bridge

I just recently tried installing SC4 Deluxe edition.  It installs fine (to 100%) then the first screen that shows up afterwards in the screen of the bridge with a bunch of cars on it.  Nothing happens afterward.  I have the play disk in the system.   

I've tried uninstalling and rebooting then reinstalling several times, no luck.

Specs on my computer should excede the requirements easily:

Dell Dimension 4700 - year and half old

Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz

2.79 GHz, 1.49 GB of Ram

I just tried removing the sound.dat and intro.dat files from the Sim City folder and that didn't help either.  No sound even starts to play, so I don't think it's gotten that far.  I have also tried the update from the Sim City website, but that hasn't helped either.

Do you know your graphics card capabilites? If it's under 32 MB than you might need a new one.

a 32-bit gfx card should do fine... my system is an older Dell Dimension (2300), only running Windows XP SP2 at 512MB RAM, with only a 1.69GHz Celeron... I've been using the same GFX card it came with... the computer only upgrade was a another HDD since 2002.. the original is still functioning.

I still have the graphics card the system came with, but that has been powerful enough to play World of Warcraft, Civ IV, and Fifa 07 so I think it can handle a game from 4 years ago, but I could be wrong.  I am at the office so I can't check, but I honestly doubt it's the card.

Any other ideas?

I was looking at this thread, but I have no idea what immulation software is?  Can anyone think of any conflict that might be causing an issue.  I am on XP.  AVG is my antivirus, I'll try turning that off when playing.  Can't think of much else, but thought someone might have an idea?

Are you accessing the game from your desktop icon? If so, try the start menu. I had this problem before and tried the start menu and it worked.

hey ive had deluxe for 4 years on 3 different comps andon my first comp i opened from the start menu and it worked. ive tried that on my new comp and i have similar problem:

my game goes to the ea games trailer and then, freezes, then simcity closes.

geforce 7300, 2GB ram, 80GB space.

and like tzmaertzig, i have avg as my antivirus. my game has worked before

ANy help?

Remove intro dat and sound dat from main file and retry starting the game .
