I really have no clue how I found this. I believe I was on MSNBC.com when I found this.
Anyway, did you ever want to see the entire world 100% accurately?

Go here:
http://www.die.net/earth/?zoom=2

The nightlighting is 100% accurate.
The cloud cover is 100% accurate (except around the most northern areas and the most southern areas) because it is using live satellite images.
The sunlight/daylight portion is 100% accurate as well.

I think this has to be the coolest thing I've ever seen. The only flaw is that you can't zoom in any closer than one time.

Too bad they can't apply this to GoogleEarth. That would be incredible!

Edit: Actually! This next one reminds me of GoogleEarth:

Great site. Does anyone know why the North Sea and various other places have this very light blue colour? Is it because of shallow waters? The confluence of rivers with the sea? Pollution? Is it to mark the landing sites for the aliens? I don't want aliens to land that close to home. I mean it's fine if they blow up New York for the Nth time, but I don't want them to interrupt my weekends.

Also, in the nighttime over the US you can see three very straight lines of light running across the midwest. Those can't be interstate highways can they?

    ^^^

the water in those places is lighter blue because its shallower and probably has lots of sediment

at night it might also be fishing fleets or gas rigs

and the lines across the midwest are definetely interstates..or maybe railroads with lots of towns along them

I suspect that the lines of light aren't the interstate highways themselves but rather, the towns that are established along the interstate highway.
