Ave vs dual 1-ways

Is there any differrance in the amount of traffic that a pair of 1-ways can handle vs ave? Avenues cost so much more, that where I planed to use them, I start with a road and a street to use the space and provide access to both sides replacing the st with a road when needed., then replace with one-ways with avenue intersections when traffic gets high. Seems to work.

Now If I could get the rich snobs to take jobs near by insted of at the other end of the map at the farm area and then bail because comutes are too long and they don't like bus or train to get over there.

Ave=5000 cap. (2500 each way) 1-way = 2000 cap.  I know the Ave. is faster also, but I don't have the stats handy.
So....  dual 1-way is 4000 and  you'd have to put many connections b/w the 2 or your traffic would get stuck in 1 of the 2 lanes since its not like a highway where they can "change-lanes".

I'm not following what you are saying about getting stuck. I lay down two one-way roads side by side in oppiset directions. Then place avenues at intersections that are crossed by roads or other one-way pairs. I have cars moving in all 4 lanes and it the correct directions for the given side. Streets simply are run across.

Hi Vorg, and welcome to simtropolis! Don't panic!! Well, keep providing avenues and one-way streets ro your sims. Honestly spoken, I dont't know how much you are into the game or what city size you are talking about... Aves can handle more traffic than 1- ways; if you wanna go eye- candy or realistic use the modus you prefer.. or what fits in best. Just remeber: street, road/ oneway, avenue, highway. It's that easy. Good luck,

I think Mclehr is referring to driving in the u-drive it missions (though, I have been able to change lanes on the one way streets; you just have to put the car in 100% manual, and not the stick-to-the-middle-of-the-road automatic 2.gif )

I personally prefer using 1-ways with a tile space between the two directions. I generally plop bus, (and when needed) subway, and 1x1 parks in the middle. For best results, I have streets/roads/other 1-ways/avenues crossing every 7th tile (thus a block is no greater than 6 tiles in length; something that the game prefers, IMHO.)

But, as lucky7 said: it's your game. Go with what you think works and looks the best for you.

    How about this idea:

If you have a lot of traffic and too much traffic for an avenue... place 4 one ways, 2 going each different direction, by each other! You have a 4 lane road on each side!

Here is one I have used occasionally.  If you look closely at my signature, you'll see it.  Run a rail line up the middle between two opposite going one way streets.  You can use pedestrian mall tiles to help this along when you have the NAM, and the rail can be GLR.  Can give quite a pretty result.

I've had the game awhile but havn't played much. tend to play in sperts. Right now for example I'd be in the Pirates of Burning Sea beta with a group I play with, but my computer has gotten too old for most games in beta now and a new system is beyond reach right now.

I'm running the nam and few others, like a post office. I set blocks up as 6x6 tiles. Res is 4x4 blocks starting out with street - Road - Street in each direction. The res section is bordered by a street/road which is a place holder for ave. followed by 6 tiles for com and other stuff followed by another ave and then the next res section. In the very center I have a double wide come section each direction divided by a street/roads combo to later be replaced by ave and latter highway. Dead center is room for a colver. I started building the main town off this center and the farm section way off in the corner. I am also setting up rail to run along side the highway space and now looks like adding mono as well to handle the rich snots that don't like standard rail.

For some reason the sims like to take jobs oppiset of where they live. city ones like to work at com near the farm and those living by the farm seem to like to work in town. I placed for sims in town when the first houses went up. they promptly went to work in the farm lands. then moved to the farm area and took jobs in town. They made teh switch a couple times before 4 settled in farm land and 1 in town. The one in town is $$$ working at the local hosptial. The other  work mostly in the farm, but switch to city for short times. It's a small town, I think around 8k people now.

And with the NAM, you could even make the inner two lanes HOV lanes and encourage your Sims to take the bus.

Can't you split avenues with the NAM, too, thus giving you a greater capacity?

What pedestrian mall tiles stand for?

Is that game standart or do I have to download? Cause I wanted some of those, my city has a 'pedestrian road' in downtown, its the most commercial area of the city, and I really wanted to do the same on my SC4 city, even tho I wont get big buildings due to lack of volume, but whatever.. how do I get it? 9.gif
