  1. Commercial Demand Problem

I agree with Nardo69, radical mods are not my preference either. The only game mod I really use is the industry Quadrupler, and only because it is realistic. If you are not getting high CO demand then the time is not right. Spend time playing other cities and building up the region. Before you know it, everyone will be wanting office jobs and you will be hard pressed to zone high dens commercial fast enough!.
  2. Which is Fastest??

Erm...Sketchley, yes you can connect all 3...there are are GLR to subway connection, Subway to EL, and EL to GLR. Also I tested this out since this intrigued me...I made a blank tile...created water 10 tiles wide to split the "city " in 2....and built a house on 1 side and an industry on the other, so the only job for the one house was across the water. First I used road, then demolished and then rail, sub, el and GLR(not so sure about this one because had to use puzzle "filler pieces" and I got wacky results, but it's essentially Ground version of EL rail. Ferry was tricky to get it going, but the results were as posted above. Ferry may appear faster in a populated city because the roads are conjested/traffic, and you do not encounter "traffic" with ferry's.
  3. Which is Fastest??

Subway/El Rail/GLR are basically the same thing. You can connect them all
  4. Which is Fastest??

99% SURE... Monoral Subway EL Rail/GLR Pass. Rail Ferry
  5. Ave vs dual 1-ways

Ave=5000 cap. (2500 each way) 1-way = 2000 cap. I know the Ave. is faster also, but I don't have the stats handy. So.... dual 1-way is 4000 and you'd have to put many connections b/w the 2 or your traffic would get stuck in 1 of the 2 lanes since its not like a highway where they can "change-lanes".
  6. Developing my city, need suggestions

Tae- Of course alot of things can factor in. Without a pic, I'm assuming you have all the necessities (i.e. water fd pd etc. like you have stated). Sounds like your EQ is at least 120 from your schools. Add the University/ City Colleges if you don't already have it. Next I'd pick an area your want to expand upward and query it, check all the stats and zone high density. Add an extra bus stop or sub, or whatever you are using for transportation. Even deleting a park and replacing it will help, as the initial placement is a boost to the area. Adjusting taxes slighting and making more demand also help. Also think about zoning some 4v4 industry surrounded by parks so some IHT will grow in your res city. They probably wont grow in your Heavy Dirty Industry City due to pollution, and they have no ill effects in a res city and it helps commute times.
  7. Subway layout

You pretty much answered your own question. Grid with as many stops as possible is the most effective, with bus and or other transportation stop near you sub entrances. every 10-12 tiles a station since most people agree sims only walk 6-8 tiles average. But as you also stated, grid is an unrealistic method, So i also use main lines from for ex. airport ----> downtown with stops at all major spots and from the high dens. residential to downtown, with like arteries branching off to sports complex etc. It's really up to how you play you cities, as a "game" or for realism. Good Luck.
  8. Simtropols dying?

Since 2004 I've bounced between simptropolis and simcity.com. Simtropolis was always the quality site for forums and stex's and simcity was like a ghetto version for downloads etc. I've noticed the emergance of sc4devotion and simpegs site is growing. Alot of files on simtropolis have been locked for a while and I noticed more links showing up to the other sites. Has there been a fallout at the top or this just another great monopoly breaking up. Finding files or downloads on other sites that are no longer available on simtropolis is not a good thing. Anyone know the scood behing the decline?
  9. All previous posters are correct, if you are set on your build and do not wish to demolish your current setup, I suggest either monorail (probably you have no space so not feasible) or an ant network road that you make into a tunnel from your your $$$RES to IHT districts if they are both centrally located.
  10. rail turns

Yeah thats GLR with a track mod, forget the name of it.
  11. GLR causes crash

LOL, ROFL @NOB'S DAN, that sarcarsm is priceless! And feel free to delete this thread as it is/has become GLR for DUMMIES 101.
  12. Negative Loan Balance

@NOB- nope, I initially thought of that, but in doing the math I'm still paying on it.... but....coincidence or not, I do the UDI's once each to get the rewards then I turn them off, as not to abuse 70K every year etc, upon doing a tank mission, I ran over a green "golf-cart" thingy on a rail track and it blew up. It was immediately after that when I noticed the 1 loan had gone negative but again, could just be a coincidence but I never ran over 1 of those green things b4.
  13. Horrible Pathfinder

I have to agree with Bigslark, it looks like your "loose diagonal" grid may have something to do with it. If your downtown is to the left as you say....there are no roads going in that direction, they all run semi N-S and nothing is going west without taking several. Make a more direct approach to where you want them to go. Good Luck.
  14. In a Large region of mine, I established a new city which grew quite quickly, I had 300k residents in year 6, so I was forced to take a few loans for subway construction. One of the loans has went 10 years, but did not come off the books. It is now counting negative years, as well as the balance is going negative. Several loans after that one have matured and disappeared. It is now year 20 and I have a loan that says -4yrs6 months, -86,000$. Any Ideas or knowledge? Thx.
  15. City Square size

Its really a matter of preference, but I've found that in grid style "big cities", I use Ave's around 9x9 and 11x11 blocks, then u can split them down the middle with roads for 4 4x4 or 4 5v5 blocks. In 3 of the block per square i'll zone and the other 1 I'll put bus stop, sub station park or whatever. this also ensures you have a good transportation network with stations never being too far away.
