Modular Power Plants

Would any of the modding teams out there be willing to take up such a challenge? Power Stations aren't just a small 4x4 block in reality, Power Stations are HUGE Chimmney weilding monsters that, in many ways, dominate the skylines of where they are situated. With the small slither of Smoke Stack lots, some custom lots I made myself and a random assortment of Power structures and other buildings I tend to come up with pretty good large REALISTIC Power Stations by myself, but theres only so much you can do without resorting to the horrible Maxis ones and Nuclear Power seems to be quite a neglected area in my eyes... I'd love to set out a massive Nuclear Facility but we lack the Cooling towers;  you can't plop the SFBT ones.

I may be asking too much, but its just an idea... I would do it myself but i'm useless with the BAT as you can imagine, lol.

Even if it is too much, I wouldn't mind a set of decent Ploppable Cooling Towers.

sounds interesting, though this modular system for power couldn't fit in already built cities and regions. though the method of sticking the power facilities in a neighboring city tile would work.

Good idea, I'm missing ploppable cooling towers too, especially for my giant chemical complexes.

This could be a challenge for Fukuda.

Why don't you make a ploppable cooling tower yourself? Just drag the SFBT Cooling Tower model file on "Power Plant" in the Plugin Manager, enter the desired stats and make a new lot with the Lot Editor. This doesn't take more than a few minutes.

Another option would be, I don't if it suits you, the only lot I have uploaded so far, Rayden's Power Plant.

Tried it a few months ago and failed miserably (see, i'm USELESS! lol) I guess I could always give it a shot again.

Yeah, I've got that Power Plant, I loved the Cooling tower models on it and tried to seperate them from the rest of the plant, but all 3 of them are joined together so again, it was a fruitless attempt that I gave up on.

If it comes down to it being worth nobodys time becuase very few would appreciate it (people tend to keep their Power Plants 'Out of sight and of Mind') then I can always just cut my losses and model a Cooling Tower myself, its not too much trouble (I think I seen a tutorial on it somewhere). Thanks for your time considering though.

This was tried a few months ago by ACEfanatic, he was in the middle of making a relistic Modular nuclear power plant but RL got in his way. i followed the topic as much as i could but there hasnt been any posts in about 2/3 months. In his topic (https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=81526) i showcased a few of my bats that were nearing completeion (one that was finished and just needed to be released but it was lost when i formatted)

I cannot make any modular power plants but i am gonig to finish a realistic BAT of a Nuclear power plant for you guys.

Sorry for the bump/double post but I have a question-

Could sombody possibly point me to where the Gmax tutorial for the 'easy' way to make a Cooling Tower is? Iv'e seen it before, many month ago, but I honestly can't remember where it is, searching brought me nothing. Any help would be great

Try the modifiers>patch/spline editing>lathe

use it on a closed spline that hasnt been extruded. You'll want a curved shape that looks like half a side view of a cooling tower

where it says align in the sidebar, choose "min"

once its been formed,press the plus sign for  the Lathe entry in the box in the sidebar, and select the thing that says "Axis". The middle turns yellow, click on it and drag it to expand the shape to make it hollow

Not to try and shamelessly promote my own product, but I've also made a nuclear power plant that is fairly realistic in size and power output using the SFBT Cooling Tower models (though due to a lack of modding skills, I had to use the gas power plant building as the base of the lot to enable power output, however I still think it looks decent for the central generator building). There's a link in my signature.

Also Rayden's looks really good, and is definetly more realistic than mine. I like the railroad access also.

By the way, shouldn't this be in the BAT request thread, as I'm not quite sure what a modular power plant has to do with modding.
