Schools that have been threatened with shootings in the past week:
School of Creative and Performing Arts
Otay Ranch High School
Poway High School
Vista High School
Twin Peaks Middle School

Reported Gunfire also locked-down the following schools:
Vista High School
Washington Middle School
Vista Focus Academy
Maryland Elementary School
Vista Performing School
Vista Christian School and its preschool

A sudden surge of school shooting threats has petrified San Diego city and San Diego county school districts this week. Rancho Bernardo HS was the first school to be terrorized in such a way this week (April 29 - May 5, 2007) with a message saying that a school shooting would happen tomorrow at the school (Wed, May 2). Within days Otay Ranch HS, Poway HS and the School of Creative and Performing Arts had both been left similar messages, but for a shooting on Friday, May 4. Another message was also discovered at Twin Peaks Middle School on Friday. A sighting of a child bringing a 'gun' to a bus stop for Ramona HS locked down three schools on Thursday. The gun was later found to be an "air-soft" gun and the student had returned it to his home before going to school. Twin Peaks MS was locked down after gunshots came from a home behind the school and a threatening messge was found on campus. Seven schools in Vista were shut down after a gun was reportedly discharged at Olive Elementary School on Friday.

Some Brief summaries of the incidents are provided below with links to the original stories.

VISTA, Calif. --
Seven school campuses in Vista went into lockdown Friday after the San Diego Sheriff's Department received word of possible shots fired on a campus

SAN DIEGO --
A report of shots fired at Olive Elementary School in Vista prompts the lockdown of seven school campuses Friday.

SAN DIEGO -- Officials at several schools around the region are being confronted with threats found on campus...

The above contains info about most of the threats.

I do not know if all of my information is correct, but I verified as much as possible. I am a student at Poway High School and thought that this is an issue that may be of some interest to the community here. None of the threats have been followed through with so far, but they have cost a lot of money and a great deal of stress for teachers, students, parents, police, and administrators.

Although you bring up fact, the number of actual school shootings have steadily decreased in this century. The only reason these new threats are happening is people contemplating suicide want to do copy cats of the Virgina tech massacre. The people who make these threats need to be mentally helped.

I tend to agree with the mayor of San Diego. It is just a bunch of pranksters that want days off of school and want to see how much power they weild over the schools.

People are freaking out...just like when 9/11 happened and planes didn't fly the next few days because people thought they were going to blow up more stuff. This happens once, then it doesn't happen for a while, or ever. Please, get a grip.

This isn't the same thing. Any nut can go out and buy a gun in the US, not any nut can hi-jack a plane and fly into a building. And it always does happen again. Columbine, Virginia Tech and the countless other incidents of this kind, how many separate plane hi-jacking-and-crashing incidents have there been in the USA?

Yes, it does happen again. Just not tomorrow. Nobody thinks it's cool to blow up 2 buildings and kill 3000 people and attempts it after seeing it on tv. Ok, people probably do, but chances are they won't attempt it.

    My point exactly.

Actually...if any nut can go out and buy a gun...

Then any nut can go to an airport and open fire/or enter the airport by jumping one of the fences near the airport and go to a taxiway and board a plane...sounds insane, but who knows...I live by a small airport, with big planes, but for some reason the fences are like old chain fences and they are only...maybe 6ft tall...max....or any nut can rent a plane and crash it into a building or something...even a small jet or plane can do some damage...

but case in point about the guns.,...we need them incase someone invades us...our Founding Fathers were wise enough to know this...none the less guns aren't just handed out like in thier time...now you gotta go through things...

like going through the reguired 72 hour background check and then they can buy their weapon a day later...thats four days...the only reason that VT incident happened was because that Cho was polite...never arrested and the shop owners knew the guys parents, but he still went through the background check...

must insane people have a record of some kind....mostly the people who like killing animals or doing/saying suicdal things...

Well...as for San Diego...its a very nice place...heavy on the Police...I visted once and saw a cop on every corner...kinda impressive...plus its probably just some dumb kids looking for more days off.. they will be caught and the days missed will be served during the summer...

why is it that switzerland issues every male citizen automatic weapons for militia duty and yet, they have extremely low crime rates? I would guess banning guns isn't the correct solution.
