ANZAC Day

The 25th of April marks a very VERY important event to both the soverign states of New Zealand and the Commonwealth of Australia, an event that is even more important than our National Days of Waitangi and Australia Days.

This day, April 25 marks ANZAC Day - a time where the two nations together reflect on our war dead who served in all major conflicts from World War One to Gulf War 1 and all current and past peacekeeping duties.

ANZAC stands for Australia, New Zealand Army Corps and was created in rememberence to the tragic landings at Gallipoli - Turkey April 25 1915 (from a British Imperial Command Balls up) that created a bondship that stands strong today between the south Pacific nations.

To a Kiwi and Australian this moment symbolises not only a time to remember War Heroes but also to symbolise  at heart the bond and rivalry the two nations share - in a way it is the corner stone to our patriotic pride - where everyone stands united!

Here is the link to the ANZAC Day Coverage for all those interested in a very scared moment in these two nations histories.

To all the non (British) Commonwealth members I reccommend looking at the link and further links it provides to an insight of New Zealand and Australia

And yes I was at both ceremonies at Dawn and 11am paying my respects as I have had family serve both on the Ally and German sides in World Wars One and Two, so on my British side, my family served the Empire through the merchant navy, the army and navy and remembering the Merchant Navy stories running the damned U Boat Blockades was enough to keep you on edge. And for my German side I am still tracking that down for World War Two although I knew the women on that side worked in the factories durring the War and yes even my grandmother met Hitler Face to Face in one of the huge SS Rallies in 1938 and 39 and at the time she described as an awe inspiring site (She is a german and not a Nazi!). As for World War One, I am still finding out on the British Imperial Side but for the German side I had family that served under the Kaiser in both army and civic roles. One of my great Grand fathers served as a Imperial Judge for the German Judiciary and served as a decorated officer for the Prussian Army and met the Kaiser face to face in WWI.

I have to do more digging but that is small piece to my family background and I attend ANZAC Day ceremonies in rememberence as I come from a family that served on both sides - something unique

Yes today has been a remerable day today in Australia, New Zealand, and Gallipoli.

Today in Melbourne there were more than 35,000 people attending services at the Shrine of Remembarance, and around the CBD

really good to see more people turing out for this event.
Thousands lined the streets.
although there are no more WWI diggers. many others were remembered during WWI and WWII.

More than 90,000 people attended the traditional Collingwood Magpies, an the Essendon Bombers AFL (Australian Football League) and paid there respects as well before the game.

All of the events were not just held in Melbourne.
They were also held in the Nation's Capital Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and many more samller cities and communities,  which all held dawn services, as well as during the day.

It was not only held in Australia butin Gallipoli where the Australian and New Zealand army descended on the area.

Least we forget them.

Thanks Palpatine, as you said, it's a VERY important day for Aussies and Kiwis alike. It is great to see so many young people here taking more of an interest in the commemoration nowadays.

Lest We Forget.
