A newbie question (I tried searching...really, I did)

Good afternoon,

I am new to Sim City 4 (Rush Hour) and new to the Simtropolis boards.  I have a relatively good sized city on the go but am having a tough time with traffic congestion.

I'd love to be able to hide all zoned buildings (leaving all other buildings) so I could better see where stuff was placed.

I seem to remember a way to do this in previous versions of Sim City, but can't seem to find anything on SC4.

Thank you for your time and I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere.

Just a guy.

**I also have a buttload of questions about why my monorail has nobody using it...but I'll leave that for another day

i dont know of any way to do this...the closest i've come is going to data view and showing zones...it shows roads and blank spots which are not zoned buildings. as for traffic congestion, do you have the NAM?

for the monorail, try building more stations, all over the residential areas, and make sure you have stations near the places where your sims work.

you can hide zones by hitting ctrl x and typing in zoneria, but i dont no how to hide buildings that have grown in the zone.

I'm pretty sure that's to hide ungrown zone tiles.  The closest I know of this is just do easily go to the data view and selecting "Zone Data View".  4.gif

HawkPride,  I will have to try again with the data view and showing zones.  I do not have NAM installed, but I downloaded it about an hour ago and will install it when I get home.

Patriot,  I think I am going to hold off on any more monorails for now...I think my city needs a bit of a reworking.  I read a tutorial on Making Money The Easy Way (no cheating) and it looks like I did a lot of things wrong

Brad-MacD, thank you for your input...I just hope I can figure it out.

On a related note,  why would they take that functionality out of the game?  It was mighty helpful to be able to hide zoned buildings and be able to see all of my other stuff...oh well

**that was a rhetorical question...unless there are original game designers here...I don't expect an answer 43.gif)

    Thanks again

Oh, a non-rhetorical question would be...if I install any of the mods or add-ons from the download page, will it just continue with my city?  or am I starting over from the beginning (not nessecarly *does anyone actually know how to spell that word?* a bad thing)

Adding plugins just enhances existing cities unless there is some conflict.  Not likely in your case.

Be vary careful with the NAM.  After you install it for the first time, read the documentation before you start up your game.  You may decide to uninstall and reinstall with different options.  You can change the personality of the NAM as often as you like as long as you are consistent.
