This is an interesting idea that crossed my mind a few minutes ago. I was thinking of what song that I like matches my current city the most. Since I've yet to unpause it and let it build, I'd say "I'll stop the world and melt with you-ou-ou-ou!" The city is also near an extinct volcano, just to mention that. I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not, so if it isn't, could a moderator please move it? Thank you, and to add on to this, this looks like it will be interesting! TopCliff

EDIT: No, I'm not crazy or tired, just have a wierd thought system. Please, tell us what YOU think!

Interesting.  You know that if you put in custom music, that's all you get.  The default music isn't played if there is custom music turned on.  You might want more than one selection.

Your idea gave me an idea... It would be nifty if the music that played somehow matched the climate of the game. Got a recession going on? Houses abandoning? It plays the blues. Conversely, a prosperous economy and building boom yields really upbeat music.

Of course, I'm a big believer that everybody's life should have a soundtrack. 4.gif

God Mode destruction = REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It..."

Zoning residential = Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl"

Hmmm, I can't think of anymore...

Well, In SC2K, the music that played matched how your city was doing. It played more upbeat tunes when your city was doing good, and slower tunes when your city wasn't doing so good.. and then there was the music it played when the end of year budget window opened.

In SC3K, the relations dropped, but it tended to prefer slower songs when you were one of the underground views. No relation was apparent otherwise.

In SC4, the relation is absolute. There are tracks it plays in region view and in god mode, and tracks it plays in mayor mode. In fact, they're even in separate folders among the game's files.

And SC Classic didn't have music.

How about the game plays Pink Floyd "Money" when you are having financial woes.

I like the idea of music reflecting the mood of the city.  Maybe they will have that in SC5.
