Maastricht, Capital of Limburg

Hello everyone!

This is going to be my first attempt to build a real-life city.
I'm still downloading a lot of buildings, and I also need some batters who are prepared to bat some extraordinary buildings of the city. The town is my (almost) home town.
Here some facts and pictures.

Maastricht.
This town is the Capital of Limburg, the most southern province of the Netherlands. It is also the most south city of the Netherlands.
Around the year 0, the Romans built a bridge across the Maas river (la Meuse). After the collapse of this bridge,in the 13th century, it was replaced by the current st. Servaasbrug.
Nowadays , Maastricht is a town with around 120.000 inhabitants, that's famous for it's "Maastricht treaty" , where plans of the Euro-currency were written down and signed. A lot of people also now it for it's TEFAF: the European fine arts fair.
It's also a student city: It has an University, a conservatory, a theater academy and an arts-academy.
It  has a lot of squares too. Vrijthof is the most well known, where we can find the St. Johns church and the St. Servaaskerk, named after the sacred person that died in the town.
Nowadays, there are a lot of modern buildings like the Bonnefanten museum, the Colonel and Leeuwenborgh college.
It has a lot of traffic problems to: the A2 had a lot of tailback problems and the bridges are mostly congested to.
The town is sometimes called "Petit Paris" as it looks very bourgundian and the way of living is also very bourgundian.
Well enough.

Update one: Binnenstad (den Stadt(maastrichts), city  centre)

    Hello everyone!
This is the first update of Maastricht!
I've built a lot of pedestrian roads of cobble stones, with a lot of plobable buildings next to it!
As the old city is car-free (most parts) I did that to.
I'm still waiting to downlad florapack Vol3 , in order to build walls.
I also noticed already, that the city is not to scale. It's far to big actually. an area above Wyck is going to be twice as large as normal. But as it is a beautiful town, that no problem2.gif
A time ago, there was a poll what the best city centre was of the netherlands. Maastricht turned out 1st, leaving cities like Amsterdam, the Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Leiden on lower places.
    Let's start with the pictures:

De grote staat, the 2nd most expensive shopping street in the Netherlands15.gifwhen it comes to rent per square meter)
    grotestaatdominihj4.jpg

Kleine staat. the 3rd most expensive shopping street in the netherlands (when It comes to rent per square meter):
    kleinestaat2rz0.jpg

Kleine staat and the Kesselskade ( still waiting for the florapack, in order to build seawalls):
    kleinestaatit6.jpg

The Market, I replaced all typical maastricht-building with some standard buildings, like the city hall (any Batters interested?):
    marktww0.jpg

And a statue of the major in the Jodenstraat, behind a red-light district building.
    beeldburgemrv0.jpg

And some recent pics, of this evening:
The city centre, with more and more pedestrian streets:
    statenkwartierxi0.jpg

An overview, you can see it isn't exactly to scale:
    view1yq8.jpg

That was that, see you next time!

    Hope you liked it!

Hou dich good, en geneet vaan t leve!

    Take care,

    Justin

    yep tommiej that's true.

The big difference, is the music. you hear far more local music, in the local language. MY expieriences in the north, is that there was only trance-music, and a fake-carnival-songs,

Another big difference is the cosyness (gezelligheid); when you talk to someone, you'll often get a beer or a handshake, just because you talked to him like a minute or something. And when someone talks to you, you give him a beer to, or a handshaking. But Tilburg isn't that fake- Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland ( a bit), are real carnival provinces.

But nothing can beat the "ambience" in Maastricht. You should come over 2.gif3.gif. in Heerlen and Valkenburg are often fights, thats just nothing!

    Take care tommiej

    Replies and Teasers!

    Hello everyone!

    thanks for all your interest!
