Is it possible to change the size of your region?

You need to edit the config.bmp file in the Region folder.  You can only add new space at the bottom or to the right.  If you change anything with an existing city, it will be blanked.

A better trick would be to make a new, larger region then import the cities into it.  Safer.

Please edit your posts instead of double posting, please.  4.gif

You can't change a city that has already been terraformed/built on into a different size, sadly.  Your custom regions only appear in your My Documents >> SimCity 4 >> Regions folder.  Same should be done with plugins.  Hope I helped!  4.gif

    Quite frankly, you can't.

First, your custom regions should all be in My Documents\Simcity 4\Regions.  The Program Files\Regions is the game installation area.  Don't touch.

In a default region there will be no config.sys file.  These, you simply cannot change.

To make a region with a custom layout, without a terraforming map, proceed as follows:

    1. Open Windows Explorer with the folders option on and navigate to My Documents\Simcity 4\Regions so that all your current regions are shown in the right-hand page.
    2. In the pane with the region folders, create a new folder and name it with the new region name.
    3. Keeping explorer open, open MS-paint from your Accessories menu (Start->All Programs->Accessories).  If you have never used paint before, you will have to find someone to teach you, because I am not supporting Microsoft's stuff.
    4. Create a new file with, say, a 16 x 16 pixel image.  This will give you a map 1024 x 1024 Px.  The ratio is 64:1
    5. Put this on the highest magnification (800) and turn on the grid.  Each grid square is 1 pixel.
    6. The grid is color coded, and size coded as well.  You must use pure colors for this:
      1. A 1 x 1 red square (1 pixel) gives you a small city
      2. A 2 x 2 green square (4 pixels) gives a medium city
      3. A 4 x 4 blue square(16 pixels) gives a large city.
    7. Save the file in your new region folder with a name of config.bmp.
    8. Close all programs you opened in this exercise.
    9. Put in your play disk and start the game.
    10. In the region display, navigate to your new region.
    11. Open it, and voilà, there is your custom layout.  You can now use the god mode tools and terraform it.
Now, if you want to have a pre-terraformed city, you can get a canned one off the STEX or you can make your own.  Just be sure you create a 256-shade, 8-bit gray-scale map, and a config.bmp that matches it.  .jpt maps have to be one pixel larger in each dimension than the region you are goaling.  See this link for more information.

Technically, you can expand your region in directions other than to the bottom and/or the right but it takes a lot more time and steps to follow. I've done it and it essentially requires you to save the cities in your original region, start a new region, plop your original region (append your original config to the new region config) to the right of the new region and plop your original cities into the region plopped to the right of the new region so you have effectively moved your cities (original region) to the right and expanded to the left. Clear as mud?? I can explain this convoluted mess in further detail if anyone wishes.

If I follow what you're asking, I believe the answer is yes.  I prefer expanding developed regions instead of starting new ones so I do this a lot.

Make sure you have back-ups of the completed cities before trying any of these wonderful suggestions! (copy and paste the files into a non-SC4 area of your computer (AKA: MyDocuments).
