How can I increase the number of cars on the roads?

How would I make it seem that there are more cars on the road, without actually making more trafic.  Also, I don't want to use the NAM, I find it has to many problems when you start messing with the the comute times and amount of cars.

Now why would anyone wanna do that?

Cars mainly creates unwanted effects in the city, like:

- congestion

- traffic noise

- air pollution

Cars also commute the slowest from the transport options and the distance to commute is the lowest with cars. A sims commute time is faster using a road, avenue or highway in a bus. So push the car usage down. Every region in the world is entitled do that in coming centuries* so why not do the same in a sim city 2.gif

To cut down CO2 and methane in order to prevent global warming happening at the speeding rate as it is.

SEBASTIN: ok lets not toot our own horn on your political view on global warming and whatever else on this topic.

THE OLIVE: these are purley for eye candy and do NOT add to congestion/traffic noise/air pollution.

sebastin, global warming doesn't even exist in SC4.

dadyrghluv, I've been looking for something like that, thanks for the link! Now the highways in my cities will look a little more realistic for the amount of people that live there.

Do these slow down the performance in the game? It seems like it might push the cpu a bit harder and cause slow downs....

every custom content download adds the usage of mem and cpu.

I mean in a big way since the game now has to render all these extra objects when the cars are generated. I don't mean the slight difference you get when you add a new building

That would depend on the settings I suppose. Those automata links in the second post have moderate and heavy versions, maybe you should just try 'em both out.

Except these traffic generators wouldn't, since they'd only have to contain some lines of script and don't actually add new models. That was really useful, by the way, posting the exact same thing twice.21.gif

sebatin, I though I was pretty clear the second time around regarding the specifics of my question.  If you don't know the answer, just don't reply, copying and pasting the previous response which obviously didn't answer my question doesn't help anything.

I'm looking to know if there is a NOTICEABLE performance hit with this. One of the game settings that improves performance is to turn down the number of autonoma, so it stands to reason this is going to cause very noticeable slowdowns. I know all custom content will cause a bit of a slow down but there's a big difference between downloading a BAT, or for example using the perfect path finding in Nam which will seriously hurt performance.

I tried these out in one of my cities, and at least for me there is a slowdown, because of all the new automata that are generated. However, the slowdown seems to occur only when you plop the plaza down and demolish it, because it generates a massive number of them at once. It also looks funny because the automata are spawned from one spot and drive from there.

I interpreted this question to simply mean more automata in the game. To do this, raise your detail levels in the game options.
