Asian Style Cities

Lately I've been trying out some new styles of city building and I've found that Asian cities can look really great if they’re done properly. I'm planning to start a new region in the coming weeks that resembles Hong Kong. I've got all the custom content and now all I need is some good tips and advice of How to plan a good Asian city. What I really need to know is stuff like what types of mass transit is used in the heart of Asian cities, where to start and end highways, if there's mostly commercial or residential buildings along coastlines- all that type of city planning stuff!

Feel free to show off ya pics of your Asian 'feeling' cities and if you've got some cool and useful shots of real life Asian cities (Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong or even Dubai) post them too. I've been working on some 'practice cities' in my existing region but I'll start posting my pics of my developing Asian region ASAP.

A small Japanese town and a Huge Chineese based metropolis city.

I'm starting some of those in Enrion, Yomotis, and possibly Motrey. So far, I think Enrion has the biggest. What would you expect from "the city with everything... and more"?

Taurus702B: The japanese houses aren't on the STEX but there on Somy's Japanese site (the small streets are actually part of the building)- http://members3.jcom.home.ne.jp/somy000/p7.htm

crazyyaya: I'm not sure what you mean but I don't think there's modd that dose that. I downloaded packs of buildings that kinda the same but different.

Thanks so much but how do you make them growable because I do have somy Japanese buildings but they dont show up they do, however, show up in the parks and recreation section and i have to place them in

You have to zone 4X4 or 5X5 blocks of medium or high density residental zones. This should grow the houses stright away. (You can zone large blocks by holding down the Ctrl key if you don't already know)

No I didn't know that heh. I am not a big fan of shortcut keys in games or in 3-D animation. Plus I am new to Sim City. Does it matter which building set I use when doing this.

You should have all the building sets turned on just to maks sure. I don't know because the instructions are in Japanese, by the way the only way to get a 5X5 zone in SC4 is  to use Ctrl (It's not a shortcut)

I am having problems getting the Asian City block pack to grow. Is there a trick to get these to grow as well? Once in a long while I can get one asian building to gow, I'd like to have a lot in one area. I dont want to use the Block Maxis Buildings mod either. I can get many other Asian downloads to work, but not the block pack for some reason.

northsider1983: Yes, I have exactally the same problem I guess you just have to plop them because most fo the Maxis block buildings really do suck!

interpol: You get the 3D effect by making a mirror image of your screen shot in Photoshop of some program like that

I am having problems with buildings in my Tokyo city. During the night they don't light up

Those buildings in the pics are incredible!!! Where did you get those?? It has a Japanese feel to it (obviously by the Japanese writings on the billboards) but the architecture too.

OK,here is mine.

It seems some have problems and can't get grow the "asian city block pack".

But it's very easy.

1) Titlesets (Euro, Houston).

2) Zone medium commercial.

3) Zone 2x2 by holding down the Ctrl key.

4) Wait because they grow at stage 6.

That pic of IFC 1 and 2. Wooooooooooowwwww, its like being in HK all over again... But how come there are so many apartments in Central :-)
