Question about Regions.

I've looked in the "help" section, but it didn't help much. If someone doesn't mind as to how to install regions then it'd be really helpful. The nitty gritty gist of it would be great. Mainly what folder it does into and what file I need from the STEX. Thanks!!

1) Download the JPG or BMP or graphic file to your computer.

2) Create a new directory in your MyDocuments/SimCity4/Regions directory, and name it whatever you want your region to be called.

3) Place the graphic file in your directory.

4) If you want to use a custom-format "config.bmp" then place that in there, as well.

5) Load SimCity4 and open up your new region.

6) Hold CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + R

7) Locate the region graphic and select it, then hit enter.

8) Your region will now terraform and you can build on it soon.

I'm trying your way schm0, but no go. Any ideas? Bad jpg or bmp? I'm gonna try some more but it's giving me some trouble. The CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + R isn't working. I do it once I open up the region that's in the folder that I made, right? I can't find the graphic. I don't know if i'm missing a step or what.

There are two images. One should be a grayscale JPEG image, and the other should be a small config.bmp image.

Put them both in the region directory as explained above. Make sure the JPEG image is greyscale!

Do you mean that typing CTRL + ALT+ SHIFT + R doesn't give you a file option box? Or do you mean that once you select your JPG, your region doesn't create itself? If you can get to the file, and the region does nothing after you click "OK" or whatever, then you need to open the JPG in a graphics editor and save it as greyscale.

Doesn't the bmp and the jpg files have to be the same size, say 960X1156 (as an example). If they don't match, then an error message pops up.

Also, I noticed that if the jpg is not an 8 bit greyscale, it won't work. I have experienced this before, where I converted a greyscale jpg to 8 bit on Corel Paint Pro, and it worked.

I am using SC4 mapper from SC4 devotion. It will create region based on greyscale jpg and doesn't care 8 bit or 24 bit. Faster than using SC4 terraforming (CTRL + ALT+ SHIFT + R).

    Google it.

    Arto.

I don't get a file option box so that I can select the jpg.

You need to press and hold all four keys (CTRL + ALT+ SHIFT + R) to get SC4 terraforming.   Pressing CTRL, afterthat ALT, afterthat SHIFT and afterthat R will not do.  Press 4 keys in one time.

MaybeMemories, if you look a few posts back in this thread, gml_josea has graceously put the link into the post. I believe it can also be found on the LEX, if memory serves correctly. Hope that helps.

How do i know that it's working or has worked? Is there a graphic that shows up that the puter's doing something? So far the 4 button mash, at the same time, didn't yield any results. So, i dunno what's going on.

Could be one of two problems:

    1. If you are using a wireless keyboard, it may not allow you to press four keys at the same time.g
    2. The region you are trying to create is the first one in your list.  If this is so, there is a bug in the software that disallows this.  If that is the case, create a folder named 0000000 as the first folder in your regions folder.  This avoids the problem, but doesn't fix it.
When the process starts you get lots of warm feelings on your screen.

    Maybe different brand different?

All I know about this is that some wireless boards have restrictions on simultaneous keys.  I don't use one, having been burned before.

When terraforming, is it usual for a big big cloud to appear, moving from left to right?

In the STEX I saw that there were files called 'maps' but I also saw that there were files called 'regions.' Are these the same thing?

Hi all! Please help! I am having a poblem with some of my regions. I have downloaded a couple of maps from ST. Followed the intructions given by the map creator, treated it in terraformer and created BMP files. However when I open it in the game and clicked any city in the game I have to recoil each city that makes the edges flat. How do I sort this out? None of the other maps with original bmp files giving me this problem only the one I trnsfered in terraformer has this painful problem. Please let me know.
