It does look a lot like Britain, but probably more so, eastern Britain as wetsern Britain is generally more hilly. However, those lovely photos of the river ditches near his house remind me of the Somerset Levels.

Voorburg, because I live there. It's against The Hague and it has 39,000 inhabitants. I'll post some pictures when I know how to do it.

    I love Maastricht!

But I also love the Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden, Utrecht, Groningen. But Maastricht on the top!

I don't like Vlissingen and Nijmegen....Don't know why... (don't want to offend anyone)

Voorburg (Forum Hadriani), after Nijmegen (Noviomagum) the oldest city in the Netherlands.

This is statue of Corbulo, a Roman commander under the emperors Claudius and Nero. Corbulo lead the dig out of Fossa Corbulonis' or Corbulo's Canal, now named as the 'Vliet' or 'Rijn-Schiekanaal'. The canal lay against Forum Hadriani, called after emperor Hadriani.

You don't see any Roman things in Voorburg anymore. But there are some very old buildings in the old city centre, named 'Oud Voorburg' (old Voorburg).

Hofwijck was built in 1642, on a commission by Constantijn Huygens. Huygens employed the architect Jacob van Campen after he was introduced to him in Haarlem. Jacob van Campen was helped with the design by Pieter Post.

The estate was created after the idea of "a harmonious piece of paradise on earth, with a garden in God’s image and likeness."

After a couple of years as a widower, Huygens buys a piece land in Voorburg, and he commissions Hofwijck to be build. Hofwijck is inaugurated in 1642 in the company of friends and relatives. Here Huygens hopes to escape the activities of The Hague, which is indicated by the name of the house: Hof (=Court) Wijck (=avoid). Its Latin name is Vitaulium.

Voorburg (with Leidschendam) has a mayor tunnelproject named: Sijtwende. It's the big northern road to The Hague, and it has 3 tunnels and houses and a big firedepartmentbuilding.

Two tunnelentrances/exits. At the top of the picture you see my hockeyclub 4.gif.

I never thought that there was someone else from Friesland on this forum (Friesland is 1 of the 12 provinces of our country). As i said before, i live in Dokkum, the most Northern city in The Netherlands. Here are some pictures, made by myself. Dokkum is a city with 14,000 inhabitants. The city center looks like a city with 50,000+.

    The market:

Near the old city house. (On the left)

And this is our new city house. More than 25 buildings were destroyed for making this possible.

This is the old city house:

''Skyscratchers don't only fit in Rotterdam, they are also rising from the The Hague skyline. I live in Sittard, South of Limburg. The Architecture here is way different from cities like A'dam and R'dam (and wwhere I'm originally from; Hillegom). I'll make som fotos en post them. Sittard has a beautiful old catheral ''the Dom'' and dates back a few hundred years ago. In the surrounding area there are some beautiful castles; The Limbricht castle and Castle Hoensbroek.

    Vin

    HOLLAND!!!

I don't remember if I've replied to this topic yet, BUT DEVENTER REPRESENTING YO!

I go to Deventer every summer to visit my familiy. My dad is part dutch, born in the US, moved to holland, met my mother, full dutch, got married, lived there for a while and then moved back to the US and I came along.

I dunno why we moved to the US.... My dad doesn't care where we live and my mother misses nederland a lot.... and I'm moving back as soon as I can. I'm getting excited for this year's trip. Ariving at schiphol on June 18.

Can't wait to see my cousins and aunts and uncles! And all the friends I have who love trance music and want to be trance djs just as I do. There are no kids like that in the US.
