Can you rename regions?

I'm wondering if there is a way to take one of the existing regions and either save it as something else, or copy it and rename it? Is this possible?

Open the region.ini file in the region folder in notepad, and change the name in there. I've never tried in on a populated region, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. Might want to create a backup before you try, just in case.

Also rename the folder the region is in.

And it works in a populated region, I've done it multiple times.

OK, but is there a way to rename a city within a region without nuking it or using the cheat?

I don't think so, I think you have to obliterate it or use the whererufrom cheat.

You could try renaming the city file itself... I don't know if it wound work.

Furious M is correct, edit the region.ini file in your region's folder and it should do the trick. At least, it works for me.

I tried to rename the file of my city - only the name, not the rest characters and numbers - and all I got is... a nice crash and the loos of the city. Thanks god it was not a serious one! As for the region, no problem!

My region might be a bit more complicated. It takes place in the timbuktu region, where the getting started tutorial was obliterated and replaced with Memorial City. I'm afraid of what effect this might have on Memorial city.

I think you can change your city's name the same way you can change your region's name.  The files are surprisingly simple.
