YES! Jason I'm so glad to see you revisiting 211, I was really looking forward to you releasing that! It's perfect for SC4 because it is a totaly generic office building...looks great right now!

    XSpiderman:  Thanks!  1.gif

As you guys (hopefully) know, JBSimio does the BSP queries.  But the Summer time is his busy season in real life.  Last summer it didn't matter, since nothing needed to be queried, but this summer there will be 3 or 4 BSP releases, and it's not fair to throw those on him, along with his other SC4 projects, and real life, and expect him to be able to do everything.

Would anyone be willing to do some BSP queries while he's away?  The queries themselves are already designed, it's just a matter of arranging a photo of the building and a couple paragraphs of background information.

    Thanks.  1.gif

Great!  There's a tutorial in the omnibus about queries that should get you started.  You can download a BSP lot to see how JB did them, and how they're arranged.

It will take some time for XSpiderman to lean them, so if anyone else can do the immediate queries (there's two buildings that are totally finished except for the queries), then that would be great.

Simfan, you rock! That'd be awesome if you could do the queries.

Basically what we do is send you our BAT files, along with an image and a short historic blurb. Then you use that plus the existing files JBSimio already created to build the queries. I believe the files reside in the model file and then all the lots' Query exempler GUIDs point back to it. You'll have to use the Omnibus tutorial though, since neither Jason nor I really know how they work.

Neither of us has the files to build the query (there are a few .png files that build the template) but I'll try and strip those off an old BSP model now, and if I'm successful, I'll shoot you a pm with them.

That looks really great! I finally got my GMAX registered, so I'm gonna start something tomorrow, probably something really crappy, but I gotta re-acquaint myself with the BAT

    211newprev05oq8.jpg

I added the pillars at the bottom, and started on the first floor windows.

This is turning to be a lot more accurate, and a ton better looking than the original, I'm glad I'm redoing it.

I don't know how much I'll be working on this on Wednesday, but I plan on getting a lot done with this over the weekend.

    Edit:

    211newprev06io6.jpg

This is the last I'll get done, until Thursday evening.

Ok, well, it's now Friday evening.  I didn't end up working on it after all.  Right now, I need some help figuring out the spacing of the window frames on the lobby.  I have some vague photographs there, and I have photos very close up (but you can't tell how they line up with anything), so I know what's there, I just need to know how they line up in relation to the rest of the building.

Also, how does everyone feel about adding Windsor (A Canadian city which borders Detroit) to the scope of the BSP?  It doesn't matter unless someone is planning on BATing anything from there COUGH COUGH COUGH but despite being in a different country, Windsor is part of metro Detroit, and the two are very connected.

So many beautiful buildings can be realised thanks to this project! Man I hate living in a country with a hunger for lowrise. Keep up the awesome work!

Hello, Jason! I don't know if you remember me, but I am Cristian, the Spanish guy, that one that loved the Detroit old style. Well, I am building 2 main cities (Lloyd, Ontario -main CJ in ST of me, and Selkirk, Saskatchewan.-my other CJ) and now I am building a city in Oklahoma and I really need your buildings, but I already have them, so thanks Jason!! I used them as the "Old town" and that new one 211 would be nice for a lowrise area that I have in downtown next to highrises (not too high, I am the density assasain) and it would be nice! I am really happy that you are developing some great buildings right now, and I'll stay tuned to catch them!

Great work, and I consider adding Windsor to the project a great idea, I know, it is Canada, but at least it is in the same metro area.

    Bye bye

and sorry for my English, it is still being poor I know 3.gif

Keep up the good work guys. I'm sorry I can be more help, although I am still available for historic info and taking picture requests for the summer (it's summer so I downtown often giving tours)

If you're going to do a parking garage, nothing is more Detroit than the Michigan Theater..... parking garage. For those not familiar, it's not a parking garage for the theater, it's a theater turned into a parking garage! Reference the movie 8 mile. Not only is it famous for it being a former theater, the theater was built on the site where Henry Ford's garage was that he built his first quadricycle (aka car).

Howling:  Thanks!  I'm glad you're liking our buildings.

Asturianu:  Thanks!  A lot of people have used BSP buildings to represent other cities' landmarks.  Your English is fine, by the way.  1.gif

Baldy:  It's always nice to see you!  Yeah, right now I'm in need of more 211 photos.  Baldy to the rescue again!  1.gif  This time I need some reference photos of the front half of the building.  I'll send you a PM on flickr.

lol, well, the Michigan Theater is a parking garage, but it's not really what I had in mind.  Actually, I wouldn't mind doing the theaters in that area, but the funny footprints don't work well in SC4, so I'd rather work on things that are more usable.

Well, still no 211 progress.  I was going to just work somewhere else on the building, but I can't get over the lobby area.  After I model the area, it's time for the roof.  I also added one too many floors (so embarrassing 15.gif), so I'll fix that too.

Thanks Momo, I have already seen those though.  They don't show the window frames for the lobby part.  But Baldy will be taking some reference photos.  Once he does, I'll get back to work on 211, and it shouldn't take very much longer to finish.

In the meantime, I've started working on the Penobscot Building again.

    peno21za9.jpg

I've started cloning and mirroring the pieces to fill in the rest of that side, and then I've also made a few new walls.  The walls facing the right are the inside of the H of the building.  Each side is actually a little different, but I need to do more around that area, in order to see just how much certain things need to be changed.

    Looking good Jason!

As for Windsor. Wasn't Casino Windsor on our original list? I guess it would be difficult to BAT now since it's receiving a major addition. If anyone is to BAT something from there, I was once thinking about modeling the Portofino Tower. I have no images of it, but it's that brand new round one on the lower end of the skyline.

Wolverine:  Thanks!  I wasn't really suggesting that any of us should do something from Windsor (although if anyone wants to, I'd be totally fine with it), but if there are some people from Windsor ::COUGH COUGH:: that want to do something from there, then that would be good.

XSpiderman:  Thanks!  Yeah, it should look really good when it's done.

bigskelding:  Honored to have your first post here!  How "bad" is your computer?  We're always here if you're ever ready to get involved.  Someone else on the forums ::COUGH COUGH:: also lives right next to the mini-van plant.

    Here is an update:

    peno22gn5.jpg

There's not a whole ton left to do on the main tower part here, only a handful more pieces.  Then it's time for the base!!  3.gif

Jason, pictures are done and uploaded.

Great work on the Penobscot again.  Funny timing because I was just going to comment that if they can build in legos, you should be able to do it in gmax!!!!

Huh, I always thought Penobscot had more of a tan color to it.

Ah, well, are you gonna do the red, whit and blue night lighting?

Oh, and does anyone know what the RenCen situation is?
