Air security at its best!

Flatulence Forces Plane to Land

By Associated Press

Tue Dec 5, 9:12 PM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It is considered polite to light a match after passing gas. Not while on a plane.

An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing Monday morning after a passenger lit a match to disguise the scent of flatulence, authorities said.

The Dallas-bound flight was diverted to Nashville after several passengers reported smelling burning sulfur from the matches, said Lynne Lowrance, spokeswoman for the Nashville International Airport Authority. All 99 passengers and five crew members were taken off and screened while the plane was searched and luggage was screened.

The FBI questioned a passenger who admitted she struck the matches in an attempt to conceal a "body odor," Lowrance said. She had an unspecified medical condition, authorities said.

"It's humorous in a way but you feel sorry for the individual, as well," she said. "It's unusual that someone would go to those measures to cover it up."

The flight took off again, but the woman was not allowed back on the plane. The woman, who was not identified, was not charged in the incident.

I do hope the airline made arrangements to get this woman to her destination.  Next tiem she should use a heavy dose of some perfume instead.

Now that's an odd case of security checks gone wrong.  If all the luggage was searched, and nothing was found, I don't really see why she couldn't get back on the plane, but then, I've also heard of cases where a stewardess couldn't take a 11/2 inch screwdriver on a plane (security risk) but she could go into the kitchen area and get a 9 inch knife and that was okay.46.gif

Matches are allowed.  Lighting them on the plane is not.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Really? You can't have nailclippers or plastic knives but you can have matches?47.gif

u are allowed to have up to 5 books of matches on a plane, but yet you are not allowed to have a lighter. screwed up huh. they do this so that people who smoke, can light one up quicky after a flight

EDIT: the way i know is my brother-in-law works for american airlines, and he told me this. i still say too bad for us smokers and buy a lighter after your out of the airport.
