Hey, Brandon, the newspaper looks realistic. With real info and the accident info it looks like a real newspaper from Roselle. You must call "Hanover Park" to a suburb because the water tower says "Hanover Park" and to make a bit more realistic this city, a suburb called as well "Hanover Park" would be very real if you look to the newspaper and see the watertower.

I like this cj more each day!

Yes, actually. There is a town here where I live (Chicagoland) called Hanover Park, and that was a real accident that occured during the summertime. Nobody was killed, but I wanted to make it a wee bit more interesting 4.gif That expressway is known as the "Elgin-O'Hare Expressway" in RL (true fact) 3.gif

Update 13: Itasca, the State Capitol

Well, now that school has 'officialy' kicked my rear-end back into a scedule, it's pretty hard to keep up with the days, now being about 5 since

my last update.. But no worries, I have another one for you that hopefully will keep you busy until the weekend (or at least Friday night 3.gif)

Anyway, I'm going to dedicate this update to the state capitol, Itasca. It's a moderatley sized town of 23,500 residents, on the edge of the Metro Area.

Itasca is very well known for being the home of the biggest amusement park in the region: Funland. A few miles away is the

Roselle Metrodome, where many large performances and concerts are held, most recently David Benoit featuring his best songs from his album "Full Circle",

as well as his oldie but goodie "Every Step of the Way."

    Itasca's Founding and the 1800's

Itasca's first ranch, built in 1895 on Elm Street, Itasca was first settled by Dr. Elijah Smith in 1841. Dr. Smith practiced in Boston, and in May 1841, he set out to find a suitable site for doctoring, farming, and raising a family. He traveled from New York via Detroit and headed toward Roselle County. His parchment government land title dated March 10, 1843, was signed by John Tylor, President of the United States. The document gave Smith title to the land that is now bounded by the railroad tracks on the south, Maple Street on the west, Cherry Street on the east, and Division Street on the north.

The post office was established in 1846 and took on various names, such as Bremen, Pierce, and Sagone. In the 1860s the first school was built. It was a small wooden structure with one room. The building was located on a site near the present First Presbyterian Church.

In 1873 Smith plotted eighty acres of his land into lots. The Chicago and Pacific Railroad was completed from Chicago to Roselle, with stations at Roselle, Medinah and Itasca. Smith gave the right-of-way to encourage location of the tracks through the settlement. He donated $400 to help build a station.

The citizens of Itasca decided in 1890 to incorporate into a village. At a meeting at his mill, A. G. Chessman was elected the first Village President. Turner Park Road was first called the Chicago Road. At an 1891 Village Board meeting, the name was changed to Turner Park Rd.

    The 1900s

In 1901, the town was again incorporated but this time as the state capitol. No one really knows the entire clear story behind this decision to this day, as many

important documents were destroyed in 1920 after a fire ravaged the town.

The Village of Itasca created a Historical Commission in 1985 to retain the aesthetic beauty, character, and historical integrity of the Village. The Village of Itasca is committed to the preservation of its pre-1900 and early 1900 homes, buildings, structures, and places.

In 1987, the Village adopted the Historic Preservation Ordinance which provides a mechanism to identify and preserve the special distinctive historic, aesthetic, architectural and/or landscaping characteristics of the Village's cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history.

The Itasca Historical District includes the following area: Bounded on the north by North Street, on the south by Roselle Road, east to Turner Park, Turner Park east to Rush Street; on the east by Cherry Street extended to Schiller Street then west to Rush Street, then south to Turner Park Road and on the west by Catalpa Avenue extended to Roselle Road.

There's a little history, now dishing up some pics from about town:

    Itasca-Jan-2.jpg

Itasca's first religious establishment, the First Presbetyrian Church on Rush St.

    Itasca-Jan-3.jpg

The Capitol Building. This structure was completed in 1933 during the stranglehold of The Great Depression. It was commisioned

in 1925 by architect Jim Tomlinson & Associates. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright also surveyed the property.

    Itasca-Dec-1.jpg

The edge of city limits on the west side of town. The Chicago-Roselle route runs through here. As you can see, many farms still dominate

    much of the area.

    Itasca-Dec-2.jpg

A small neighborhood on the northwestern side of town. In the bottom right hand corner (sort of) you see the

Itasca Fire Station No. 1, a historical landmark, with the inscription "We Never Close Our Doors" above the main door.

    Itasca-Dec-4.jpg

Downtown Itasca. Notice that most of these buildings were built between 1900 and 1945. After Roselle became a stronghold

as a commerce center in the region, rapid development here slowed drastically, no major buildings have really been built since

    the 1950's.

    Itasca-Jan-4.jpg

    Itasca-Feb-3.jpg

last 2 pictures: More downtown scenes.

    Itasca-Dec-3.jpg

    Itasca-Jan-1.jpg

The Capitol complex, complete with an underground parking garage under the building. The garage leads to an underground

link into the Interstate system and takes you to the Metrodome.

That concludes this update. Next update will include Points of Interest in the area and Entertainment.

    Enjoy and please comment!

So, when exactly did hydrogen power become available?!3.gif

Anyway, your latest update is probably your best (custom content database aside)! Something about the third picture really jumps out at me, and it's the same for the fifth pic; I guess it's the farms combined with the taller buildings and the trees that look good together. The rest of your pics are very nice, too, and I see you actually found somewhere to plop one of those almost useless Maxis landmarks.

Well, it's kind of late here (11:06), and I've got school tomorrow, so I'd better leave this post now. I look forward to more!!

Uh, well, I meant to say major buildings that actually add something to the town itself, the power plant is just a formality (all in your mind 3.gif

Oh, great pics from the capitol. Great. I love your style because you did the state capitol city with a small town feeling. Just what I like 2.gif

    Great!

And in my city we have a small freeway built in 1995. In 10 years 60 people died in the freeway because accidents. Horrible accidents with mutilations, deads. Uhhgg, is better to not talk about it. So imagine, in 10 years 60 deads in the same freeway of 3 kilometers long.

Well, hope nothing bad happends in your city, friend! This CJ looks extremately better each day!

Beautiful work on this good looking CJ!!

    Update 14: That's Entertainment!

Roselle isn't just a financial and commerce center, but a fun and exciting place to visit too! You might be thinking "Hey, I wanna go

to an amusement park!" or "How about going to a forest preserve for a hike?" or even just going to the movies, Roselle's got it all.

There are many many things to do while your here, maybe a concert at the Metrodome or taking the kids to Funland. We got it all, just for you!

So come on! What are you waiting for? Experience what we've got to offer and just have fun!

    The Roselle Metrodome

    Westfield-Jul.jpg

First is the Metrodome, located in Roselle's closest neighbor, the suburb of Westfield. This massive arena was first contracted and

then constructed in the Spring of 1979. Construction of the site was completed in 1981. The huge 65,000 seat arena holds a

variety of floor shows, concerts, sports games, conventions, and more. Most recently, jazz master David Benoit

appeared December 21st taking hits from several of his albums, including "Every Step of the Way" and "Full Circle."

    c29.jpg

    hcatlanta.jpg

    rnsjc99.jpg

Pictures taken from the David Benoit Christmas Concert on December 21st.

Bob's Funland and Putt Putt Golf

Named suspiciously after the fictional amusement park in Quahog, Rhode Island, Bob's Funland and Putt Putt Golf is a great

family destination for a great day filled with fun, fun, and well, more fun! Situated in the state's capitol, Itasca, Funland is the biggest

amusement park in the region, second only to Six Flags' Park in Dundee, Illinois. Addmission is only $5.00 for adults and kids 12 and under

are free, so you save some green and have a great time. Bob's Funland was built in 1970 by an auspicious young entrepreneur named Robert Flannigan. Today

it is still a popular destination by far attracting more than 1.7 million people each year.

    Itasca-Dec.jpg

A general overview of the park, you see the street system in place that was used for families that had the option to rent

a golf cart for the day to make travel around the park a little easier. The picture was taken in 1995 from a nearby helicopter

tour launching area. The street system was removed in 1997 to make way for better pedways and other amentities.

    Itasca-May-1.jpg

    Itasca-May-2.jpg

    Itasca-May-3.jpg

    Itasca-Jan-8.jpg

    The John Prezkin Music Pavilion

Adjacent to The Metrodome, the principal signature of Roselle is the John Prezkin Music Pavilion, a band shell designed by world-renowned

architect Franz Greenstein. With 4,000 fixed seats plus additional lawn seating for 7,000, "there's plenty of room to grow." A International Architecture Prize

honoree and National Medal of Arts winner, Greenstein designed such landmarks as the Guggenheim Museum at Bilbao

and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The building began construction in May 1996 and was completed in August of 1999.

Characteristic of Greenstein, the Prezkin Pavilion consists of massive panels of stainless steel resembling the graceful blooming of a

flower or the unfurling sails of a massive ship. The structure consists ofa large steel trellis criss-crossing the lawn, attached to that are speakers that produce 3-D

digital sound so amazing it would seem if you were in the front row. Costs are abosultey free. All you need is a way to get there, and your set!

    Westfield-Jul-1.jpg

The bandshell, nestled smack dab in the center of Century Park.

That concludes this update. I hope you enjoy this update and please come back for more!

Please comment on your way out, too! Enjoy 4.gif

Well, I see you've played with the MAPP set, and it looks fantastic! Nice idea with the street system for the park's first day, but it looks much better with the ped mall tiles. Moving on, I want to ask you about two BATs: The Metrodome in the first pic and the music pavilion in the last pic. Anyway, nice update, and I look forward to more!
