nousername:  Well, many of us are here in Canada.  To whence are you moving?  Will you be in a big place (Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal), or a smaller city (Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Ottawa, London, Quebec City, St. John's, Halifax, St. John) or somewhere in the country, like me.

    Hi, Jacky.  Bye!

Craig:  We are all agog.  You can now delete your page bump, as I think this will hack it.

Moose: What about Fredericton!  You mentioned Saint John, yet not Fredericton!!?  Ugh!!  Lol, and Saint John is spelled SAINT not St...nooo clue why, people get offended...3.gif

Craig: A way of remembering it is Fred and Eric weigh a Ton.  Fred, Eric, Ton.  Fredericton!  It's actuallly not that bad of a word to spell.  The Nunavut capital is iqaluit, and some places in Quebec are...just WAY out there...

Frederictons not that bad just to show.  Or try this: Frederick Ton minus K.  Fredericton!  Fredericton was actually called Frederickstown once...way back then in the 1700's...named after Prince Frederick...or something.  3.gif

Moose: I'm alright and back to school, yet the earaches are setting in...and the coughing.  Argh! 3.gif

HEY EVERYONE!!!  Guess what!!!  So, Wednesday I went to the dentist, okay?  Got some x rays done, blah blah blah...x rays turn up, I have a tooth coming up under my adult canines!  Haha, it looks like a milk tooth but it's sideways and has no roots...anyways.  Got 4 wisdom teeth coming in, ALL ARE SIDEWAYS.  Funnnnnn....will be pulled at a later date, I guess.

One cheese bagel and OJ please!!  (I almost wrote svp...which means Sil Vous Plais...which means "If You Please, or "PLEASE" for short in french!!!!  3.gif  Long rambling, sorry...just woke up...)

Brad:  Never been in Saint John, but have been in Fredricton.  Frankly, reminded me of Barrie, Ontario in certain ways.  Provincial capital, eh?  Well ... 'nuff said.  I upgraded your order to a special chocolate milk shake.  It contains the appropriate anti-nausea stuff (colorless, odorless, tasteless, but works).

Jacky:  Bacon as you like it in a wished-for sandwich.  Coffee.  Mmmm.  Enjoy.

Brad:  Sounds like a long bout with an orthodontist or a dental surgeon.  I seem to remember that the public health plan in New Brunswick didn't even cover hangnails, so commisserations.  Bagel and OJ served avec verve.  Il n'y a pas de quoi.

Arrrrgh! they are speaking in French!  Sacrae bleaure!

Brad: So that Fred Eric Ton thingy ... yep I am sure it will come in useful ... well as long as I am mates with you ...  erm ...  it is a bit like how I remember the order of the great  lakes order left to right:

Super Man Hates Eating Oranges - Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario (Sorry if I spelled wrong)  - about the only thing I remember from 5th form geography.

Glad you are still with us - just.   I am sure you will survive.  Ooooh major dental extractions very nice.... not.

Jacky: Please eat more slowly - we like it when you are here.

Moose:  Thanks for listening to me yesterday - that 2PR really bugs me - even more than the page flip bug ....

*down boy down.....as the page flip bug jumps all over me and licks my face - eww!*

Mason: Yes you are still in the clinic - along with any other poor unsuspecting soul that should wander into these parts...  stay tuned.

Hmm ... it was you who put those trackers in wasn't it...  I wonder what else you got up to ... you sneaky mainlander you...

[People from the South Island of New Zealand refer to themselves as being from the Mainland - there is even a brand of cheese made in the South Island that is called Mainland.  We in el norte like to humour them..  there is a good natured (mostly) rivalry between the North and South Island in New Zealand.]

Just don't get us started on rugby...

All:  You may be interested in my post in the Update to Off Topic Rules thread .... please read and comment - this is a serious request to the Moderators and Administrators who govern this thread and indeed the whole site.  Please keep it polite and civil ....

I will try and update the Clinic later - if you read the above afore-mentioned you will see that I have been a little preoccupied this weekend...

Hey Leo! glad you made it - we are a friendly bunch in here .... anything (and I mean anything...) to eat?

Guys: This is Leo I asked him to come and visit us so play nicely and please share the toys in the sandbox....

Mason - mqsim - please do not eat the sand - it is very hard on the digestion...

Alex:  Stop that! if you need to go there are appropriate facilities out the back

Brad:  Cover your mouth when you cough, wear your jumper, wash your hands - before you touch the keyboard ... thank you ..... and lastly but most importantly - wear clean underwear, excessive coughing can have unexpected results at the other end.

Bryan: Better start practicing O Canada now .... Brad will teach you on the way back across....

Brad: Bryan needs to learn O Canada by the end of summer - please make it your project - and [don't roll your eyes at me in that tone of voice] I will expect  full and detailed progress reports.

Moose: A triple shot short espresso on the hour every hour to get me through the night please (At the RLC on night shift)

Sorry gang I have been very preoccupied this weekend... with another matter .... of great import to us all ....

On night shift this week so I am sure we will get the lads of that bungy rope soon...

Jacky:  ... *too late she is already gone in a blur of hugzzz and trail of coffee drips on the floor*

Leo: normally the food gets served with this autosevergiverouttathingy - but we really need Moose to explain it - he is our resident technophile.

So until he arrives I will do my best to explain...

It is something like you think what you want and then it telejumps or whatever they call it right to where ever you are - instant service depending on your ayedeesssselle speed thingywatsacallit.

Did I get the technical terms right Moose?

*lowers voice so Moose doesn't hear - [much]*

I think it runs on valves but don't say or mention anything about that to Moose as he is likely to sit on your car and make it bounce even worse than it is now...

With Texas accent:  Ooooeeee, monster, jay parsley franchise trays beans, Craig.

Your jog free teacher missed beautiful Lake St. Clair that lies between Huron and Erie.

Your espresso will be served as IV caffeine.  This will be dissolved in the proper amount of glucose and sterile water.  Try not to jitter while we get this needle into your jugular.

We don't use valves.  The whole thing runs on integrated circuits doped with dilithium crystals.

Just for that we are going to skip the IV and administer topically by dissolving the caffeine in DMSO.  I hope you like smoked oysters.

Homeandaway:  Served.  The cold buttered toast is in the rack.  Did you enjoy the kidneys?

Leoz:  Welcome to the Moose Factory.  What will you have?  Just think out loud and you'll get it.  Food served as requested, except the fries are in a hot bowl.  Actually Craig can't spell adeledicnander.  The universal will to become will always supply what you want.  Be careful what you want around here.  You'll probably get it.

nousername:  I hope you will like Vancouver.  It is a beautiful city, with the Olympic games for Winter 2010.  Mountains and sea and just gorgeous.  Only real drawback is 200 days of rain a year.

granto93:  Welcome!  We have a special on fish and bruise.  You don't have to order anything.  Just think out loud about what you want and the autosystem will teleport it to you.

Granto!  Welcome matey.  (Sorry that is what we call buddies in NZ)

Yep I like the sign - you gotta love Google image search.

Moose tells me that he weighs over 1000 kg - that is a lot of meat to crunch the front of your car...

I have seen that stoned looking photo of yours wherever it was - the one when you had been watching hockey for too long.....

Yep - go right ahead and order ... the food will turn up eventually ... if not let me know and I will Fedex.

Leo: How where your burgers? [please use the napkin provided to wipe your fingers]

    .............................................

I am gonna copy and paste my last post in Jacky's Kabin here as it relates to the 2PR and my request to the staff to look at it again...  the same applies here in the Factory.

    Hi everyone:

    PM from Luke to me...

what was that problem with the threads that you posted about a couple of days ago?? because you never really said what happened just that this new "rule" was too harsh??quote>

I have been asked by Luke - Amerikaner to explain a bit more about the 2PR rule and what it is all about.  I started to reply as a PM but thought it would be better here so everyone can see what I am on about.  This is especially relevant to the new members who were not around last year.

Ok here this is how it went ....

The Kabin (and the Moose Factory for that matter) is termed a chatter thread - that is, it does not have a specific topic.

In the purist way of thinking - threads should have a single topic that every one who posts sticks to.

These types of thread (the kabin) are considered by some to be little better than spam.

Meaningless pages of stuff that just suck up server space.... [i disagree .... to a point ....]

The topics in the Kabin just ramble around where ever / whatever but there are topics of conversation it just changes.

Last year in September 2006, way before I joined ST, the conversation in the Kabin was very different to how it is today.

People would just post straight after some one else, even if there were only two people on line.  When there were more online the conversation got very hetic and posts would sometimes trip over themselves and cross in cyber-space.  There would be double/triple posts.

The ST server in those days was not the new shiny 4GB one we have now - they tell me it took a long time for the pages to load on a big thread like the Kabin - this is why they started a new one and closed the other.

The conversation would be very quick fire sometimes - eg:

    Hi

    how are you

    I'm fine

    Cu

    ha ha

    LOL

It was almost / virtually turning into a chat room.   Some people did not like it  - especially the poor mods who had to read page after page of quick fire converstion....

[and yes they do read every page - they are watching always watching ... Hi Beebs, Zel and the other guy who I have not met.... you are welcome to post here occasionally just so we know you still love us.... but I digress]

This quickly filled up many pages of posts and some people got a bit carried away watching their post count climb rapidly and started bragging about it.  It got a bit silly and out of hand.

One person tried to make 1000 posts in an evening when he was on 780....  did not go down well with the mods.

This upset some people as they considered this type of posting to be Spam.

[i have been on a steep learning curve the last month or so - before that I thought that Spam was  something you got in your email inbox advertising fake Rolex watches or those little blue pills.]

A new rule was imposed - the Two Post Rule.

This is actually a very simple rule to understand - even though it was very unpopular at the time.

    Person A posts

    Person B posts

    Person C posts

Person A can now post again.

The 2PR in a nutshell.  It very effectively puts a choke on free flowing chatter and posts that are considered spam.

There was also some other unpleasant stuff going on that I will not talk about here.

People got very heated and much discussion was had both in this thread and in the up date to rules thread (pinned to the start page).

The rule has stuck ever since and people have had to adjust their posting style / habits.

At present this rule (in the off topic general forum) only applies to the Kabin and Moose Factory because these are the only two chatter threads that have survived the rule change .. I am told there were many more, and a big rash of them at the time.  Much, much, work for the mods.

So what am I trying to do?

I am simply asking the administrators that govern this site to look at this rule again - now that everyone had calmed down from last year.

What I am proposing and have asked the staff to discuss, is a loosening of the rule, or a new guideline (almost a rule but not quite) that would allow two people to have a brief topical discussion within the Kabin on any given subject.

The exchange may take a couple of hours if they are doing other stuff on the net ....

This is of particular interest to me because in my particular time zone in New Zealand there can often be several hours pass after I post, before I can post again.  Our evening is while the US and Canada are asleep.

I am not proposing that there is a return to the hi / bye one or two word style of posting that happened before.

I have asked the staff to consider allowing the Kabin members to "self police" that is politely tap a member on the shoulder if their posting is getting a bit  "over-exicted".

If they do indeed end up allowing a loosening to the 2PR,  then we would be very silly to start getting all carried away again.

This request is still very new, just made at the weekend and the staff will need time to consider it privately and discuss it amongst themselves.  In the meantime the status quo will remain - that is the 2PR will apply until we are informed otherwise.

I hope that this helps to explain what I have been trying to do.  Stay tuned.

Please make a sensible comment in the Update to Off Topic Rules thread if you wish  -   in fact I would really appreciate it.

    Linky.

This will help the staff know whether there are more than a couple of people who care about this.

Thanks for asking - a very good question.quote>

Say, now Iv'e done, I think I'll order a pint of beer, sure I'm underage, but anything is possible here right? strongbow please!

It's my turn to talk now; In my School there are absolutely loads of Chavs, Emos and Goths. Everybody hates Chavs (with good reason!). Emos I have nothing to do with. But Goths are the best! Goth women are totally beatiful! most of them, I'm not Gothic, but I think they look wonderful with the cute pale skin, Black Make-up Lips, Clothes and Nails, theyr'e real hot. (actually, I really mean it here, I jadmire them a real lot!) I hope to go out with one someday soon... sighs into beer....MMMM! This is the best beer I ever tasted! <img src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/4.gif" border="0">

Well, Lake St. Clair is between two rivers.  One river drains Lake Huron and the other passes all that water into Lake Erie.  While it really is like a wide part in the river, all the water from the upper great lakes passes though it.  There's the rub.  Is it a great lake if it isn't large in area?  It sure passes a lot of water.

Leoz:  The autosystem dealcoholises all beverages for minorsA subtle molecular method is used to preserve the taste, but not the buzz.  Well, I am not au fait with all these jive terms you have for the clans at school.  Goths?  Sound like a set of vandals to me (Visigoths?).  As for the others, I guess you are in the UK.

granto93:  Sorry, the fish and brewis is off tonight.  How about a nice strip loin, cooked your way, with button mushrooms, backed potato with the works and candied carrots?
