Sectorize it!

Sick of building giant highway systems only for those dudes driving around in your city to just use the avenues beside it?  Don't wanna look around for just the right network mod just so people will not have stupid driving habits?  Wanna fit 400k people with decent traffic in a medium plot with no demand mods?  Well then, you just might want to sectorize it!

"Hey bob, lets take the back roads to the office because I hate driving in highway traffic because I'm a giant Edited."

    Guess again, Edited

"Man me and everyone else have found that taking the little Edited back road to get to my out of town job is a slightly shorter distance than the highway, so like to take that, after all, I'm a moron and it's the scenic route! 9.gif"

    Wrong again, Edited

I like doing sectors because these cities tend to be extremely profitable, probably due to the fact that a hospital or school can have a bus funding of $0, but still have enough range to cover it's own sector, while still getting full use due to the density of the sector, so you spend little or no money on school busses and ambulances.  I find this is the best way to deal with the amounts of traffic generated by densely packed cities.

Intruiging concept. I tried that once in a city. I made the only way to get into downtown on expressways ... it worked pretty well, perhaps I'll have to try it again on a grander scale. Sim's annoying and incompetent driving habits irritate me to no end.

not a new concept.. but most experienced people tend to develop their cities based on realism and not on convinience... placing a mix of commercial and residential with a very large CBD also works BTW!

I just use the HOV lane plop and block all traffic (except buses) on the regular streets, allowing the auto traffic to only use the highways. Works real well, and then by adding transit to the CBD, the stations get maxed out instantly...had two el central stations overcapacity, >40,000 each!! That is a cool idea though, but I would rather try it with rail than with highways like hamster did.
