Thalassicus Airport Pack Bugs

I would like to preface this post with an apology. This topic has probably been discussed ad nauseum, ad infinitum, not to mention that this may be the wrong place to post this. That being said, any help that anyone can give me is much appreciated...

I am using the Thalassicus Airport Pack and am having a few issues. The following items sending my crashing back to the desktop:

  • Large ATCT
  • Tarmacs (Regular, Medium, and Large)
  • Open Grass (Regular, Medium, and Large)
  • Package Loading Center
Also, the  707 Jumbo Jet, Commuter Jet, etc. plop as empty pieces of tarmac without the planes. Can anyone help or steer me in the right direction?

You could try downloading the most recent airport pack and throwing away the Thalassicus pack. The most recent is the SimWings Airport Pack (SWAP). It contains everything the Thalassicus Pack does and a little more (new terminal pieces, new ATCT).

You can get it here.

Hope this resolves your problem. Remember once you have installed this to completely uninstall ANY PREVIOUS airport pack that contains the runways, terminals etc.

OK, I downloaded the SWAP, deleted the old Thalassicus one, and put the SWAP into my Plugins folder, and the problem continued, with the Muzzy ATCT being added to the list of things forcing a crash. Is there something else I can try?

Same problem here so I just deleted all the cool custom airports and just use the SC4 airports...boring.  But anyway this crash to desk top issue must be a single file that some of us must have downloaded from Stex, Peg or Maxis. (These Are the Only Sites I Use)  This corrupt lot file does not like some of the other lot files and causes certain ones to crash the game to desktop when you plop them.  After I had downloaded a new lot and it crashed the game when I went to plop it.  I took all my custom airports out of the folder and then ran the game. The reason I choose the airports was due to them being the very first lots I had crash to desktop when I went to plop them.  After removing those files, I went back in game and tried placing that same new lot and others that crashed when I plopped them and they did not crash the game as before when the custom airports where in game. Like I said I’m not sure if it is a file in the custom airports or a file in some other lot that just reacts to the airport lots being in game.  The only true way to find out is the long process of removing all the plugins and lot files and to replace them one by one or on small groups and play until you can use each lot without any plop or zoom crashes.

Sorry this is a subject that cannot die.  It is extremely annoying to play the game like this when it is not meant to be.  I am at the point of not playing SC4 anymore…

Well, we need more info.  Both of you please post your configurations.  We are especially interested in:

    1. RAM Size
    2. Virtual Memory Settings
    3. Graphics card and drivers
    4. CPU.
    5. Size of plugins load (folder size will do).

0tep:  Your machine is fine, except that with a dual processor you probably want to try running with only one cpu.  Try setting the affinity for the program to run only one processor.  You can do this with the task manager, in the process list.

I had already taken care of the dual cpu when I first built my computer.  Anyway I have been playing SC4 for at least 9 months before any crashes started showing up in my game and have pretty much pin-point the problem to the sc4 game and not my system.

You have rather a lot of stuff in program files\...\plugins.  What is the paging rate you are getting from the O/S.  Is is possible the game is overflowing its page tables?

Good question...  If I'm looking at it right on the task manager.  It is around 395MB.

    On the Totals:

    Handles: 9899

    Threads: 419

    Processes: 39

    Commit Charge:

    Total: 404836

    Limit: 4035616

    Peak: 1079340

    Hope that helped

Well, it is interesting that you have 4GB of virtual and actually go to use just over 1GB.  On this snap you happen to be using about 400MB.  But you sure have a lot of multi-threading processes with out 10 threads per process.  'sfar as I know, SC4 has, at most, two or three.

What happens if you disconnect from the net and kill your protection software when running the game?  You might find quite a difference with your AV stopped, your firewall down and the net off.
