Well, after reading tutorials for the BAT, I've decided to begin BATing.  Anyways, my first BAT project is called Whitestone Plaza, because of the white colored stone on the exterior.  I am planning 72 stories for this building, with 2 floors on the base, and 70 office floors(This will be a CO$$$ building by the way). Here is a screenshot of my current work:

Preview of Whitestone Plaza

These "boxes" will be arranged into an array, sized 6 across by 70 up on the long side, and 4 by 70 on the short side.  There will be corner sections for a better transition between the sides.  BTW, that is a desk inside the "box" there.

I've decided to do a blue triangle roof with a spire., and have shops at the base.  I'm also looking for someone who can render this project, and/or possibly someone to help me along.  Any comments on the work so far?

That's a pretty good start- we can always use more batters. It seems like you already understand lighting, transparencies, and texturing. (Remember to read Gascooker's fake Photoshop raytracing tutorial if you haven't already.)

This looks promising, but don't worry too much about producing stunning skyscrapers, especially not on your first try. It's always good to start with a small building and then progressively work larger. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Ask any questions you like about batting in this thread- there are plenty of experienced batters here willing to help new batters out. Good luck and have fun!

BTW: You mentioned you need a renderer for the project. How do you know your computer wouldn't be up to the task of rendering? 4.gif What are your specs?- As long as you have 1gb of ram and a 2ghz or faster processor, this tower should render fine, even if it takes a while. (I have a T43p with a gig of ram and 2ghz of processing (outdated, I know) and it can render medium sized buildings (like the PdR on the STEX) within 3 or so hours on highest quality, so you don't necessarily need a spectacular computer to render fine.)

Well, my computer has 1 gig of RAM and 2.13ghz processor, but my graphics card is bad. I'm getting a new one Monday, so it shouldn't matter. So I guess I don't need a renderer then...

Edit: I've started a newer(albeit smaller) BAT project.  It's called Leon Center. Here's a picture of it's current progress(I have a model on the STEX):

And I'm looking for someone to help me complete it(add nightlights, minor details, roof junk, and render).  If you want to do this, email me at slericon@gmail.com.  If you want to(and I select you), you could "team up" with me to make a small BATing team.

Sadly, since no one is responding, I felt the need to double post(Bump, I know could of edited my last post, and I should have for etiquette, but I won't double post again...), but anyways, I've started a new project, called Ardeca Plaza.  Ardeca is a 60-story CO$$$ office building.   Unlike my previous models, there will be no interior details(just nightmaps).  Here's a view of my current work:

The triangle roof will be transparent glass, with roof junk inside(or I may do a garden, you never know).  By the way, Ardeca Plaza is inspired by DuskTrooper's work, for your information(too bad DT had to leave...).

Don't worry if sometimes, no one posts, or reply.

That last building is looking pretty good. Keep it up. 2.gif

Hey this is nice. Like marcos said, don't worry if no one replies. Simtrop is big. Many things get lost in here. 2.gif

I can't help you with batting, but if you need any help on modding these buildings, don't hesitate to pm me.

    Keep it up! 44.gif

Indeed and I wouldn't worry too much about bumping your thread when you're adding new content. This looks good but it's hard to tell from gmax since gmax tends to mess with textures. Maybe next time you could show a preview screen? About the only thing that I have to suggest is that if you're going to make the top glassed in I would make sure that there is a supporting frame. Just turning that whole triangle top into glass would look a little weird. Anyway, welcome to the bat community.

Well, I've started a mini-project, which is a high-mast lighting tower for highways.  I currently have the model done, now just have to get the lighting cone done(which will be an amber light, with a 7x7 radius, but I don't seem to understand the instructions for custom lighting cones too well, gotta convert a gmax file to an S3D...).  Here's a preview:
