Devonshire: Schulmericho - The Vision Lives On

Schulmericho. That word strikes many emotions for Schulminions. One, pride at the vast plans for the town. Two, sadness at the loss of the colonization expedition. Now, a new emotion: hope. Colonists from the Lake George area and surrounding farms have settled in to the Schulmericho site. Finally, settlement will begin.

    projectmaped7.jpg

But, the project will not be as planned. For another emotion also applies to Schulmericho: fear. A terrifying vision of a horrible fate to the colony caused one of the Supreme Wirdle’s advisors to beg her to not send colonists back to the site.

    buggvisionjp6.jpg

In the end, the Supreme Wirdle decided to send colonists back, but take extraordinary precautions. Those precautions created the new Schulmericho. A compact, high density town. Covering just 1/9 the land area of the original plan the new town would have 1/3 the people originally proposed. The reason for the high density, and the new Narrow Style buildings: Schulmericho would be the first walled town in the world. For added protection, Schulmericho would be completely encircled by a fortified wall. The new plan calls for a compact central square with memorial park and marketplace. And now, at long last, we shall see the vision for Schulmericho... realized.

We begin our tour around Memorial Square. The Cathedral Church of St Francis and St. Flora dominates the square. It also serves as the gateway to Memorial Park, which features a lovely statue and some rare open space.

The Cathedral Church of St. Francis and St. Flora is the tallest building in Devonshire, by far. It is an exuberant example of the Georgian [Gothic] style which originated in the Lake George area. It is named for Saints Francis and Flora, parents of the Supreme Wirdle. They worked tirelessly to instill feline values in the entire realm – for humans and cats alike. The landmark structure features a great spire, which can be seen from miles around.

The memorial itself sits in a lovely urban park setting. Many of the businesses and offices which back up to the park also have rear entrances, allowing for transit into the park from many sides.

The view of Memorial Square from the roof of Carpathia Apartments shows the park in all of its glory.

The eastern side of the square fronts Church Street, named for the landmark in the center of town.

As you can tell, Schulmericho is strikingly different from other Schulminion cities. It is walled and the buildings are very narrow and close together. The narrow buildings are also quite tall. The church is also of a vastly different style than what has been seen in Schulmania up to this point. Schulmericho, originally envisioned as the crossroads of a nation, may instead become a turning point for Schulmania.

Really diggin' the church there! As for the town, nice way of making the sandstone the streets, as it gives the town an old, colonial feel.
