A survey of newspapers from across the nation. As you can see, the lost fleet is dominating headlines. The loss of ~2000 people from a population of just about 100,000 is a devastating hit. It will be interesting to see how this impacts development in Schulmania.

Odd language, and it looks like cuneiform...

I think I sort of put the headline into letters that can be more easily read, and I got this:

Bqk_w_ Kdq __m Dk_w Y_.

With the _ being either O, E, V, X, L, or Z.

Either I did that wrong, or it would be an interesting language to pronounce.

Grant & Leech Sorry you can't read cat language! The cats use their own alphabet. Leech, you did a good job identifying it. It is a cuneiform font. But, I found there is not a 1:1 correspondence in characters and their position on the keyboard. So, what you seeon the screen, if you are cuneiform-literate, won't match up.

I have a tuba dirge planned. IF needed. And I have been in contact with Capt. Erich Von Bremerhaven myself. He states the search is on-going with no progress as yet to report. No news IS bad news...so, to be ready, I have composed this dirge in the event it is needed. Flames are free this time. No extra charge. Fledder however will need to be asked about which Disco music he wants to play. I sure it will be solemn as befitting the occasion... always assuming bad news, of course. Hopefully Cristian can accompany me by playing on the spoons.

Leech10 Well, unfortunately, cats only translate at their whim. They don't want dictionaries floating about. Sorta destroys the mystique factor. Also, cats enjoy watching humans desperately fumbling about trying to interpret their will. It's all in the book!

The Bureau of Feline Affairs has released a paraphrased version for non-felines though, due to popular demand:

"The national government is working with the BFA to assist in rescue and recovery efforts from the twin tragedies of the massive nationwide storm and the loss of the Schulmericho fleet. Terra Incognita, Part 2

Things were grim. As the sun rose over the wreckage, survivors were stunned at the scale of destruction. Seven large ships were reduced to splinters; hulls smashed and spread over a long debris field. Schulminions back home have no idea that there are survivors; but there are... some. Those who managed to avoid the jagged rocks quickly questioned the value of their salvation. Those who perished at sea had already perished. These doomed souls were beached on a slim crescent of land, surrounded on all sides by treacherous rocks, totally without provisions. Stranded, helpless, at the edge of the world, the survivors almost envied those who did not make it. For, it seems, those who were still alive were now doomed to death from exposure or from hunger on their resourceless spit of land. Truly, fate had played a cruel joke on the hapless, star-crossed colonists.

Could this be the end of the Schulmericho expedition? It may, indeed. For dead men tell no tales - and the prospects of survival on this mélange of outcrops are truly, truly low.
