Getting Started Building Cities

Hi,

I really need help on building cities.

I have tried 3 cities but still not going well.

These are all my questions:

  1. How fast can you guys get your income to be more than your revenue?
  2. By the way, how do I ensure that people will keep on coming as in like a fast pace as I only have around 2.7k residents only by the year 2010?
  3. Should I always wait for the buildings to grow or I should keep on building residential zones?
  4. How do I prevent my industrial zones to be vacant?
Must I download mods? Or are there patches to fix bugs?

I really need help.

I hope you guys will teach me slowly.

Any help is very appreciated.

Thanks.

1. Within 3 months. All you need to provide sims at the start is power and roads. just keep it like that and build more and more until your profit is high enough to start adding some services.

2. if you keep creating jobs and more residential, your population will increase. try to give them the jobs they want, look at the detailed RCI chart.

3. thats your choice.

4. vacant industrial buildings will tell you what went wrong if you query them.

there are alot of mods etc that are good to download. I suggest exploring the game a bit more first and then taking a look at the massive amounts of great files there are on this site. There is one patch for you if you are a backward windows person.

Alright I'll look them up guys.

People are entering my city really slowly guys.

By the way, why does my railway tracks has no curvy tracks?

As in it only has straight tracks and if I want to turn it, there's no joint.

Is it a bug or something?

    Do let me know.

    Thanks.

Don't worry about how fast your city is growing. Getting a high population certainly isn't all there is to SimCity. Rails don't make 90 degree turns, so you sort of have to take a couple extra tiles to turn them. Take the end of a rail track and draga diagonal piece from there. You have to make the rails turn in one 45 degree angles at a time.

    Hi,

Er, I don't really understand about the railway tracks as I'm really new about sim city. Is it possible to show me?

Moreover, I confused on how to use the electric cable. How do I connect them from a electric producing structure?

In addition, how do I do neighbour deals? When I click on the neighbour deals, it says there's currently no neighbour deals.

    Please help again everyone

Railway tracks: About the railway tracks, this should help:

    G G G G G G R R R
    G G G G G R G G G
    G G G G R G G G G
    G G G R G G G G G
    G G R G G G G G G
    G G R G G G G G G
    G G R G G G G G G

    R=Railway Tracks
    G=Ground

    Power lines:

You can't, but placing them beside or 1 tile from the plant will carry power to places you want.

    Neighbour deals:

To start a neighbour deal, you must first have to start the city you wish to have a neighbor deal with.  After that sell or buy stuff and trade as you want!!!

By the way: Welcome to Simtropolis!

Thanks for the tip and welcoming.

Er, I'm not sure how to buy or sell stuff to my neighbouring city.

    Can you teach me?

By the way, I'm only using Simcity 4, no Rush Hour yet, but I will buy it soon.

Okay.  You got your first city right?  Now start the next city beside the one you made where the powerline goes to.  Once you open the city, find the powerline.  Then build some stuff and you get no power zots.  Now look in the budget menu, click on Neighbour deals.

Income is for selling stuff like water and power, and for taking in garbage.

Expenses are for buying stuff and taking out the garbage.

    Got it?

    All right got it.

Thanks a lot. I'm really noobie.

Anyway, what should I do to grow my city now that I have used all the land.

    Moreover, how to remove landfill?

You'll have to wait until the waste is gone. Make sure there are no roads connected to the landfill and then wait. It takes years before all the garbage is gone.

if you have used up all the land in the city square you can either increase the density off the zones, that is where you have low density residential say, draw over the zones again with medium or dense residential this will allow bigger buildings to grow, apartment blocks and the like. the same will work with commercial and industrial.

the other way to grow the city is to move into the region, these are all the cities that you have power over and eventually can fill all of them to have a giant metropolis. exit the city you are currently working on, making sure you have transport links to the neighbouring cities, and then select one of the cities adjacent to your original city, when entering this city you will see that there is already significant demand for some things, whatever was ost in demand from the original city.

building is identical in this city as the first, except now sims will travel to the neighbouring cities to get to work, thus enabling you to have far greater populations than would be possible with just one city square.

hope this helps you out. if not check out the in game tutorials or the omnibus here on simtropolis, they are both very good for those struggling with the game, especially when you are new to it.

    enjoy.

I tried installing NAM without having Rush Hour and when I tried building streets joining to roads, it can't be placed.

    Moreover, it crashes.

What should I do? Will the problem be gone if I installed Rush Hour?

Anyway, how big is the population in your city within 5 years?
