Global Warming

I am providing an attachment with Readings from my Geography 201 Course, these readings can be broad or specific but provide critical analysis of the issues at hand.

Sadly as nearly all of you do not attend the University of Auckland, you will not have access to the databases that I use

However as these books and journals are commercially printed a Google search should bring them up

I have chosen Stage 2 readings as they are intermediate yet understandable for everyone to read, any Stage 3 and Post grad material might go straight over people's heads but I can make then available on request.

These readings plus research I do through the univeristy provide the data I critically analysis and give me the stand I make

The Stand in General

That Climate Change is 95% natural and 5% natural, so yes in a small part humans have a role to play

Our data collection and analysis is flawed and uncertain but we allow for that when presenting our findings

We can not predict what Earth nor the Sun will do in any given time that will alter Climate

Therefore I call on the fact that we must mitigate and provide adaptation methods to prepare for Climate Change, New Zealand and Australia already have fun trying to do that with El Nino and Aussies and Kiwi's know what havoc El Nino can do

Remember we can no stop climate change nor the natural environment, no amount of engineering, terraforming or predictions can stop nature, all we can do is use common sense and know that building our $$$ mansion on a sand dune or a river bank is asking for trouble.

I acknowledge pollution, over population and resource destruction is present, but for the sake of this arguement on Climatic Change have kept it separate.

Science is not infallable, she and her scientists make errors, but hey, it is how we learn don't we?

And last of all, people like scaremonger others from their entrenched beliefs, remember people, Buyer Beware! People and institutions have agendas and funding does have strings attached. The funders usually don't want research they fund to come out against the funder - economics influences research and funding.

I have had my work peer reviewed in here and I take it as a compliment when they pick holes in it, but unlike some that "destroy" the evidence given, those who picked the holes give their recommendations and suggestions so that when you research again, you take on board those critiques to produce even more sound material to help the world (only to get it picked apart again but hey, don't like it, then Univeristy isn't for you 3.gif   I know it is for me as it gives me the challenge to do better and better and help fellow academics shed light on the world around us. That is the role science (and the Arts) and the universities play.

I will take questions on this topic and will be happy to answer to critical anaylsis, thats critical (constructive) analysis - something that can be hard but I know all with an open mind that can do 4.gif

The Attachment is of some of the sources I draw on and have interpreted

I'm a bit confused. Are those your sources?

On a separate note, Palpatine, I have found a report that was recently published by the National Academy of Sciences which is incredibly relevant to both of our arguments. It mentions both the phenomenon of the reflective capacity of various land-forms and impact of solar energy as possible triggers to abrupt climate change. It also talks about adapting to the current changes, like you mentioned. However, an entire section is devoted to global warming. While it may satisfy us both to be appeased from this well-presented set of facts, the report makes it very clear than more research is needed in all areas related to climate change. It makes a strong case for global warming (in the title, it uses the phrase "possible trigger"), but leaves room for more understanding and further discovery that has yet to be made. I think that this link will make you happy. 4.gif

Abrupt Climate Change: Inevitable Suprises

While I disagree that the UN is conspiring to "trick" the world into believing in global warming and that other causes are the only actual thing affecting climate change, I think that we can come to some common ground on this one.

Cheers,

Those are some of the sources I use, as I state above, I listed those that everyone can read, I have my stage 3 and post graduate material with me but will happily post on request.
