Hello there,

I have another probleme:

My ferrys do not work. They've got energy and water, they are connected to the road, I always build a parkinglot next to them...

I tried ifferent altitudes, nothing.

What's that all about?

Is there something on the other side that the Sims would want to get to? Also, is it the most efficient route? Do you have a bridge also? Are you running the NAM?

Well, I've got several briges. Is that causing anything at all?

The anchors are grey. I've checked that. Does this give you a hint to the probleme I certanly have?

(certanly... is that written right? I'm not nativ)

i think sims travel on bridegs even if it takes longer than ferrys. but if you have bridges why do you need a ferry anyway?

Sims will always take their cars first and MT options (which ferries are - even the car ones) second or not at all. Save your game and try demolishing some of the nearer bridges to see if that helps. Or, just resign yourself to the ferry terminals working sometimes and not others.

Why are the anchors keeping apear in grey?

Doesn't it mean there's something wrong?

I wouldn't mind if the Sims ain't like to use the ferrys, I'm going to build them anyway.

May be they support traveling between the several citys the region got.

    See you later

If your ferries are greyed out, the usage is zero.

Now ferries are very fast, and I have had them at either end of a bridge that was loaded and they worked very well.  They are also super good for intercity transport.

Car ferries don't need on-shore garages, but passenger ferries need them at the residential end.  Bus service to and from ferry docks is also good.  At the business end, you definitely need some kind of RT for the Sims to get to work.

I think you are right. The Sims do not think of using the ferrys in my cities. I've checked the traffic data in game:

There are more roads than people in nearly all the cities of mine at the moment.

They all travel by underground (how strange is that), all cities have low streettraffic.

The cities can afford the underground easyly, but in fact there is no more traffic to happen on streets an ferrys.

I've decided to let my cities grow bigger at first. I'm going to check the ferrys later.

No city of my new region is bigger than 60.000 people and all have plenty of roads, bridges and ferry terminals.

Certainly you can dance on the streets of my cities at the moment. Highways all around, but no Sim with a car anywhere. At the moment traffic is solved by undergrond, mainly.

    Thank you all for advice

If there are other means say a Bridge or Subway they will ignore the Ferry.Remember Sims love there cars.

Also if your Anchors are gray with no color they are not connected at least that is the case with Peg's Ferries.Goodluck

Actually I found out that the usage of ANY kind of ferry is heavily dependant on how it is connected to MT. Because of this I do love Goldiva's Watertaxi as it has the busstation functionality built in. In addtition to this car parking increases usage everywhere as they work as converters cars - MT as well as MT - cars. The smallest ones are Jeroni's Cul-de-sac btw.

Of course this requires not built a bridge every second tile and thus a bit planning on main traffic arterias. A nice sideeffect: if only your main roads lead to the bridges you may get a bit of through-traffic out of the small streets if you use a griddy street layout.

How do you make the passenger ferries work. I have repeatedly tried but they fail all of the time. For instance, Ellis Island and the Statute of Liberty islands has no roads, how do I get these ferries to work? My email is taedwards2000@hotmail.com

No need to triple post. Passenger ferries require mass transit one each end to work. You cannot use them for realistic systems.

As for the other question, sims use bridges because they don't want to wait. I use them in many of my cities and they work fine, but if there is a bridge, it has to be too far away to shorten the commute, or have a toll on it to keep the ferries viable.
