Common Problems w/ Answers

I've checked around and haven't seen this addressed anywhere, but if a lot downloaded from the LEX doesn't show up in the menu, what's the first thing I should be looking for? I'm guessing I'm missing a file, but I have both of the .dat files from the official site (and installed in the Program Files Plugin folder, not the My Documents folder). I have a few lots that don't show up in any of the menus at all. What am I missing? Running SC4 and RH (not Deluxe) fully patched except for last night's RH patch, and the LE installed.

usualy a firewall can be turned off by going to your system tray and right clicking it. a small menue should come up. you can usualy turn it off from there. if that doesn't work, you should probably go to the makers site.

Now I dont know if this is the right place to post this, but I cant seem to find that bldng_vol2.dat file that I keep seeing references to. I'm told I can get it off the Simcity.com website but I cant find it anywhere. Am I missing it completely or has the file been removed or replaced? Again, let me know if this is the wrong place to be asking...

Hey guys. I've noticed on various City Journals, they'll be a screenshot of a region without any city names or boundaries. How'd they do that?

there is an option to do this in the region view

In region view you got three big buttons up top, click the one on the left, on the rightside portion of the menu that comes up you have different options.  I think you can figure it out from here.

I can't see any of the buildings on the lots from the LE?
You either need to download the building_prop plugin from the maxis site or change graphics setting to high.

you also need the landmarks from the Maxis site and the Kunjungjon* Landmark as well....
you need the transportation plugin to see some of the props too

also you need the landmark and props plugin avalable in the modds section

My buildings for the LEX lots still don't show, but the ones from Maxis do. The link takes me to a website that is undergoing re-construction. I have my graphics on the High setting, all of them.

hmm i thought the topic of this thread was called COMMON PROBLEMS, not personal problems, i dont have a problem with it but i see more people asking specific personal questions that theyre having and not asking/answering common problems that alot of people are having. Most of the problems i have seen here are only affecting one or two people and thus is not a common problem. Might be time to make an uncommon problem/answer thread and move ALL of these to that thread.

The only way I know is to go in to your regions folder and edit the region. I've never been able to do it in the region view of the game. Hope this helps.

Jcab, to change the name of the region you must go into the region folder and find the configuration file, it looks like a text file icon .  Open that and just change the name inside of it.

Eddy, a tile is 16 meters on each side according to the Maxis guide. I want to say a small city is 64x64 tiles, medium 128x128, and large 256x256, but that's from memory and I don't have the guide with me at the moment.

whoman, use the Home and End key to rotate ploppable buildings before you click to place. For RCI Zones, Alt gives you an alternate facing if avaliable and Shift turns off the auto streets.

New question. I have seen some of the cities on various forums that seemingly have no utilities. I would have to guess they are importing all their needs? I am thinking of doing this myself setting up a city that devotes itself primarily to exporting utilities ie powerplants, water pumps and waste to power plants? Would such a city be economically feasible or would I need some zoning. If I do need zoning to balance the budget, then how do I keep their demand down so they don't use up what I'm trying to sell?

here's the problem: BAT buildings' night lighting doesn't work, AND i have the newest lot editor, BAT, props files, etc, that i could get from simcity.com as of yesterday.

 

still, no night lighting in BAT created buildings, like the WTC building, HSBC building, Wal*Mart, etc...

 

anything else to check?  they seem to work fine on LEX buildings.

I have a really annoying problem. I have a city of about 300,000 people. I only have simcity 4 and I have a mac. My health is continuously at medium because of overcrowding at the disease research center. I have it at max funding, I have fountains of youth and full hospital coverage but it just won't go up. Does anyone know what to do?

Eek, no need to get so agitated! Sometimes it takes a few hours for a reply. I think this is a vanilla SC4 problem that was fixed in Rush Hour.

To get the nite lites to work for BAT buildings you need the SC4 BAT Patch that was released with the BAT and new LE ... get it at Simcity.com ...
