Is there any error message? How long did you wait? On slower machines, it could take quite long, since numerous files are loaded/checked. What hardware, operating system and screen resolution do you use? Did you install the latest .NET version properly? Did you check the paths in System.dat? Anyone else having problems?

EDIT: To detect your problem, simrolle added a log feature - just download this update and replace the SC4Tool.exe. When you start the program, a Log subfolder will be created with a logfile in it. Please post this or send it to simrolle ( simrolle@oleco.net ), so he can check what's wrong.

    EDIT: Removed outdated link.

You just sent back the program. Go to C:\SC4\Log and there should be a file called Startup.log. Send that as per previous instructions. If there are are 17 blue progress bars that is when it seems to stall, it's still loading, just be patient

Don't worry, the work won't stop here. 2.gif Anyway, the next version will have a different startup behaviour - currently, the start takes quite long, since all textures are loaded for the analyser and texture scanner, which makes the first start rather leghtly (38 seconds on my machine). In then new version, the textures are loaded only when they are needed, i. e. when you open the modules mentioned above. This will reduce the initial startup time to less than three seconds.

As simrolle mentioned before, the new version is ready and uploaded. Hopefully, all issues concerning the startup and the Settings.dat are corrected now. Please uninstall the old version and do a clean installation with the new one. Along with the much faster startup time, we also fixed some minor issues and updated the language files.

Oh no, not again! 14.gif We had this issue a few weeks before, but it seemed to be fixed. Please report the following:

    - What operating system do you use?
    - What screen resolution do you use?
    - Do you have administrative priviledges for your user account?

Open Options/Program and check, if the paths to your SimCity installation are correctly set up. Then, click on the startup tab and uncheck the save tab positions checkbox (if you don't see the other tabs, we might have a serious problem...). Save the changes with clicking on the floppy icon and exit the program. If you don't have administrative priviledges, restart Windows and log on as administrator. Start the program again and see if it works. Check also the other modules if you see any missing elements (in the Tutorial subfolder, you'll find some screenshots of the program, compare them with what you see).

Ah well, an error message is better than nothing... Please click on the Details button on the left side of the error dialogue box and copy the error message that is displayed. Either post it here or send it to simrolle via e-mail (you'll find his address in the readme file).

In any case, try the following: Uninstall the program again, reboot and log on as administrator. Now, switch your screen resolution to 1024x768, if possible. Reinstall the tool and start it again. Does it work now?

Sorry that you have so much trouble, but we desperately need more beta testers to get rid of these annoying bugs - it seems to work for most people, but on some systems, the old errors come back, although simrolle tried numerous things to fix them. So every feedback is helpful, the more detailed, the better.

I honestly don't know what's wrong... I created another user account without administrative priviledges, changed the screen resolution etc., etc., but I don't have any errors on two different computers. For those who still have problems: I suggest to perform a Windows Update, so your machine gets all recent service packs and patches, esp. for Windows itself, and of course for the .NET Framework.

@xcalbier: Thanks for the detailed description. The building database uses an interface with tabs in the right half of the windows; these tabs are also used in other modules, such as the options dialogue box. It seems that some systems have problems with displaying those tabs, but we simply cannot find the cause. It seems to be totally random - for one it works, and for another it doesn't.

Anyway, the program supports different languages (English and German so far), so you probably find some German labels as well, since my database was created in German, for obvious reasons. The building database has two modes; the two icons above the tree/folder view (the part that can be displayed on your system) switch between English and German names. The building reference is newer, so it has been designed as English version right from the beginning. Since we're still developing the tool, the final shape isn't determined yet, but we can't really do it before this annoying tab bug is ironed out (as I said, we thought it would have been fixed, but apparently, this isn't the case yet...).

Hello, Andreas. Unfortunately, I am seeing some problems also. I can start the Building Database, but I see nothing in the right pane. Building Reference seems to be working fine. Analyser/Importer crashed the program after a long delay.

I tried to check the path settings, but Options > Program is returning an unhandled exception error. I have attached the error details to this message.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 and have the .NET Framework 1.1 with Hotfix KB886903 installed. My monitor resolution is 1600 x 1200, and my user account is a local Administrator.

I had no problems with the earlier Building Database you released on PEG's site. I am not sure how much has changed since then, so maybe that is not relevant.

If you have anything you would like me to try or a patch you need someone to test, don't hestiate to PM me. I loved the first version and am eager to get this working.

simrolle checked the exception reports and told me it must have something to do with the tab position saving feature. He tried numerous things, but it seems that there is a bug in the associated DLL file. Maybe there's an update available, but if that doesn't help, he will have to remove this feature, since he cannot do something about it.

Ok, for those who are interested, I took the time to make a Dutch translation of the program! A couple of words are still in english because I didn't knew what the translation of those words are in Dutch, but it is translated for 95% of all those english words 29.gif

The dutch translation file is attached to this post!
Just put it in your Languages folder in your SC4TOOLS directory, and then import it in the language editor and after that, select the dutch language!
