i need help building cities

first off i need help with sunken highways
the tutorial says that im spose to put roads on both sides of the place im gonna dig to anchor the land around my dig area
but when i dig those roads just disappear and the area gets lowered anyway,anyway to fix this?

and more importantly....my cities just wont freakin grow
i put down industrial zones and commercial zones and residential zones
i put parks and plazas,fire station,small police station,clinic,and elementary school and a few low wealth ppl move in then a few rich and mid wealth ppl then nada
the demand for everything just stays real low except for the low wealth res demand and farm demand

oh and in the few cities that have grown
sky scrapers wont appear i just get small towers and absalutely no commercial sky scrapers will appear

oh and i have NAM and still my sims act like morons on commutes

yes i did and power and i kept industrial and power plants away from residential and commercial zones

Have you got sanitation systems inplemented in your city? Or how abut building the police station?

You need to use the Hole Digging lots found on the STEx to dig out your sunken highways. The terraforming tools will do exactly what you said.

and yes i use a coal power plant away from residential zones and a waste to power plant next to coal power plant and i have fire,police,school,and healthcare all in the centre of my residential zone

Think you're in much hurry. Be patient, check your funding levels for each civic buolding and drag a well layout over the desire downtown area.

yeah, just be patient. it takes cities a lot longer for them to start out and get going on sc4 than in previous versions. make neighbor connections to towns in other region squares, that usually gives things a boost for me.

Yes neighbor connections are extremely important.

If you actually read through the tutorial, you would have realized that the hole digging lots are what you need. They dig the right depths.

if u develop more than one city and connect them up it helps your demand alot. I also dont think u can get tall commercial with just one city's demand....
