I used streets at the end of the one way road in order to connect it to the two way road.  Took me about ten seconds to figure it out.  1.gif  I had to get creative in other parts of the city that have one way roads that connect to two way roads as well.

When I start on the population of San Francisco I'll be using only the Chicago & New York tilesets because there aren't a lot of 'new age' buildings in SF like there are in Houston.  I want to give people the feeling that they are actually IN San Francisco when they view the screenshots.

    ----------------

That's a good idea, almost all of the tall buildings were built in the 70's and 80's. There was very little construction in the mid 90's, but more buildings are starting to get built again. But even some of the late 80's buildings do look very modern, such as the beautiful San Francisco Mariott(just figured out that what building it was here's a link http://www.skyscrapers.com/re/en/wm/bu/118782/) which is one of my favorite buildings in SF. One of the most like 70'ish buildings to me in SC4 is Kanarowski & Co., which always reminds me of either SF or Hong Kong for some reason.

    ----------------

Here is that picture of the residential neighborhoods north of UCBerkeley.  I haven't been there but I assume it has nice plush looking homes.. am I right?

    ----------------

The homes there are not that nice. They are all really close together and most are fairly old, but it's still a decent neighborhood. I drive through there every once in a while when my parents take a wrong turn going to the CAL game.4.gif

For the modern buildings in SF I think I'll just plop them.

I was hoping you'd say that about the Berkeley Hills.  The demand for R$$ is so high that place could use some relief.  I'll switch it up and replace the picture above.

hey very nice work. I think that you should instead of building the okland airport with the ones in the game. You should download the airport pack from jeorg. It is awsome and you cna make it exaclt what you want it to look like. Anyway good job keep at it.1.gif

That is one beautiful city, eppisgood!  The low-rise spread is just stunning in its scale and perfect blending.  It's refreshing to see a city like this after all those high-rise creations.  Congratulations on creating such a piece of art...can't wait till the downtown sections is completed! =D

Here are two regional shots that will be replaced with new ones as I progress.

I realize that the street grid in downtown is at a different angle than the street grid on the west side of town.  So in this city Turk turns into Geary on the west side of town between the Presidio and Golden Gate Park.

I'm not against making major corrections if any of you feel that the scale of the city is off, but voice your opinions soon.

It's a great park, at times it has a central park feel at other times it feels like you are in a forest, well that is soon ruined if your by a road, but ya it's great!

Updated the transportation & regional maps above.  I'm starting to develop the infrastructure from Twin Peaks to the Bayside District.  I wanted to complete the northern portion of the peninsula before I started the Central Waterfront and Mission District, but I'm getting too many NJZ's because I'm lacking heavy industry.

This region looks AMAZING. I've been a member here for some time now and I have never seen anyone that has put so much effort into such a perfectly realistic city. Very nice job. I cant wait to see some more updates!

Updated the transportation picture again.  I've taken a break from zoning and am concentrating only on the infrastructure.  I've completed all the freeways and have started on the main roads and am about halfway done.  Again, if you think any of it is out of scale feel free to mark up the picture with your suggestions and post it on this thread.  I am sure at least one of of you elitist San Franciscans out there can find something wrong with this region... 3.gif

I was just wondering, why don't you make Market Street an Avenue? It looks great BTW.

I made Market St an avenue at first but the quirks in RH wouldn't let the connecting roads (1st-12th streets as well as Powell, Taylor, Mason, etc) connect right.. they either had to go completely through the avenue and create a "nub" on the other side, or sometimes they just wouldn't make the connection... flat out refused to, I'm sure you know what I mean.  When they come out with the patch and address those issues I will probably change it.. because it bugs me too.

So far there are 750,000 residents, but only less than 80,000 in the city of San Francisco at this point.  Most of them are across the bay to the east in Oakland, where there is a little over half a million.  I'm guessing the final population will be around 1.5 million.

I think that in the actual San Francisco city limits there are like 800,000 people, and like 4 million in the metro area. I could be wrong though.

The city does have about 800,000, but the bay area has over 6 million people. I would say eppisgood only has about 3 million or so on his region map. But Sim City might say there is more. (it says that over 10 people live in a single family house so I would expect so)

By the way, it's coming along great eppisgood!

3rd page eh?  Small change, I'll throw the regional & transportation maps on this page as well... and the first page too so people who haven't read this thread before can immediately see The City progress.  So there they are, the regional and transportation map for The City, with labels.  I'll still update them as time goes on.

Very Nice! How about some up-close shots of the downtown area. I cant wait to see what Chinatown and Haight-ashbury end up looking like. BTW, are you gonna have/already have the Coit Tower? I love SF, this is an A+ journal.

I would post shots (believe me I am very eager) of downtown but right now it only has two skyscrapers and a lot of unzoned land to the north of the Financial District where residential would lie.  There is limited space since the peninsula isn't wide enough to fit all the 'vertical' streets in, so Chinatown just has one building (an ALTX creation) and Japantown has another (also an ALTX creation)... I've already placed Coit Tower, if you look at the regional map right above the "D" in "Fin District" you'll see a very small building with some greenery around it, inland up a hill from what appears to be a pier (no pun intended)... and that's Coit Tower.

Since I've run into a population problem in the "Downtown" region I've had to start making a lot of affordable housing for low wealth residents.. so where else would I go, but Bayview.  Definately not cheap by most people's standards, but it's one of the more affordable areas within San Francisco city limits.  Look for the corresponding label on the regional map.

That sucks about chinatown. You could use some of the colorful new Euro buildings for the Haight Ashbury area.

    $445,000

    2 Bed, 1 Bath

    875 Sq. Ft.

My trailer is much bigger and much cheaper than that. The log cabin I'm having built is 2 bath/3 bedroom with fireplace, full basement and more and it's only going to cost around $100,000. And that thing is wedged in between two other houses with no land at all. Glad I live in Maine, prices of houses there are insane.

Thanks for the tips.  Either I've never been to that area in SF or I can't remember it, your suggestions are very helpful.

Well, they dont exactly look like the Euro Buildings there, but since Haight Ashbury was the Hippie capital of the West Coast, there are a few really brightly painted buildings in that neighborhood. It was one of the most interesting places in SF for me when I went there. There are also a lot of cool shops, and a really awesome record/music store called Amoeba's. Next time you're there you should check it out. The store is almost at the end of the Haight, close to the park(Golden Gate Park maybe?). But since there are some nice brightly colored buildings in the Euro set you could scatter a few into Haight ashbury and mark 'em historical. Also a lot of the townhouses in SF are colorful, the R$$ Rowhouse "Pastel Rowhouses" would fit very well for the residential areas close to the city. In Areas like Daly City and other suburbs, the more modern houses would work nice.
