Bomber991 : For the terrain as of where the river and ravines lie, I did those the same as roads. Before raising the elevation above the valley I laid teh river by measurements first. Then with the map roughly did the border of where the valley begins.
Now the bad part I don't have any elevation maps. But I do know the river valley very well. While building now along the river I am always making provisions. Even while out today I seen a large change to a slope I need to make. And teh biggest defect of this region is the hieght of the valley. It is well over 100 ft or so deep in real life maybe near 200 but when scaled to my region the cliffs and depths are to much and this is mainly the only terraforming problem I have ran into. From the region view the valley looks perfect. And how it lies is, but the depth is just to deep. In areas that have nieghborhoods on a slope it can look bad. But I am learning new tricks and will have 2nd drafts of areas if not pleased. The Alberta Legislative has been redone 4 times which in this CJ you can see the fixes and improvements. But every tme I'm in that region of the city I see new areas to fine tune. Thanks for the question. I have many tips on hand terraforming. Ask if you have any questions.

    West Edmonton Mall BAT Project

Jim : is getting together a team to make this happen. I am a little sceptical becuase its such a large project. But I scaled the mall to show how it can or will fit in the region. It cant be done as a whole lot becuase of the way the roads curve around the lots. Spliting it into 2 lots is the best idea I have so far. But it could be split up again for a better fit.
For the parking lot I would like to use small modular lots that would work together.

The road layout looks pretty good... And I can see the population is increasing (there were 500 some time before, and now you have 5200!) Lol 18.gif. And I want to see the West Edmonton Mall done 1.gif It'll be a great addition to the game.

And also, could you draw a map showing the city limits in the region shot? Just to see if there is still much work to be done...

Best recreation so far! Congratulations (Sorry about English mistakes..)

This is an ETS (Edmonton Transit System) map. It basicly shows what areas that are developed. The Orange border is basicly my region border. And the Green border is just some of the city limits. The city limits go well beyond this map especialy in the NE.
The purple circle is the area I live in.

Awesome! I can't wait for more updates. To tell you the truth, your city journal has really made me want to visit Edmonton now. I recently pulled my guidebook to Western Canada off the shelf and have been reading up on your city.

You know a city journal's good when it gets people excited about Alberta. Congratulations!

I'm also excitedly anticipating the mall. How detailed do you plan to get with customized BAT/Lots in this project? Will customization get really detailed - such as making prop sets for city buses and rapid transit and such - or will it be reserved for large projects, such as the mall? Are there any other such projects that will require more customized design? I don't know, with the scale replication of the city map you have going on there, and the complicated simulation that will ensue, it would seem to me like you've got enough on your plate. But anyway. Yeah. Awesome.

Thanks for the info jersey devil. Alright guys, got another question, should I recreate Round Rock Texas, or Austin Texas? See, I live in round rock, but it's really more like north austin. Round rock's got those world famous round rock donuts, and the dell diamond. It's gonna be on the simple life on fox this week I think. Austin's pretty cool though too. It's alot more city-like than round rock is. Eh, whatever, I'll probably just do both.

Well, nevermind, I started with a little section just to see how hard it is. And it's time consuming. I just don't have the time to do it, and if I did have the time, there's other things that I'd rather do anyway.

this is coming together nicely here. if I recall, most of the parking will be underground and cannot be seen. anyways, I hope you do all those hard curvy roads fast or it'll be a pain in the butt to do them after you do sumthing that's actually enjoyable 3.gif.

Quito : SCC has an Edmonton Bus mod. Believe it or not I haven't installed it yet. The ones in SC are nearly Identicle but I'll most likely get it for when the city begins to grow.
And there are a ton of lots that require custom design. So many I dont have a clue on how I'll recreate them at this time.
Bomber991 : I would recreate Austin. I have seen city maps of it and it looks like a nice city. Areas with angled roads will be a challenge. But making a larger city lets you have some larger buildings. Then again starting with something small could be a good warm up for it.
A Killer Ewok : West Edmonton Mall doesn't have any underground parking. It has ground level, a second level, and a third level of parking around most of the mall making it the largest parking area on Earth aswell.
Also a big portion of what I have left is slightly curved roads which may slow down large updates a bit.

This is such a great CJ. Looking forward to the Mall very much - 11x17 and 21x26 - WOW!! That'll be huge!!

Hope you find people to help you make it really well though, cos this could be an awesome recreation of a wonder of the modern world. Question though: do you reckon this will be suitably scaled to the rest of SC4 or will it be more sized to the scale of your recreation? Not that I really mind anyway, I shall be using it in my cities regardless 2.gif

Keep up the superb work dude, and I really admire your patience. 44.gif

will_silver00 : My region is nearly scaled the same.
    SimCity4 (Small Map) = 1km x 1km
    Edmonton (Small Map) = 1.4km x 1.4km

I have it scaled like this so the city lots are nearly to scale for every house. If I used the SC scale the lots for some houses would be to big.....2x4 for example where in my scaled region they are 1x2 or 1x3.....more of a do-able look.

So the mall will actually be vs. SimCity smaller then it would be in real life. But still should look very accurate. If it was to an exact SimCity4 Scale it would be the width of an entire small map. And half the height....so take up half of a small map in total.....Its that big. Nearly 1km long.

Man, now I really admire your patience, setting it out to be so exact. I guess though that when you compare the mall size to the joerg airports or the various golf courses, it is far more sized to real life than the way Simcity is often played. And when you're playing an entire region rather than several city spaces, bigger items like this need to occupy the space proportionately.

1km long? That's vast. Wish I'd gone to see it when I was in Alberta a few years ago 34.gif

Anyway, best set aside a nice big plot of land for this in anticipation of a great set of BATs. 1.gif

Was Highway 2 actually upgraded to Trans-Canada status? Or is that just part of the fantasy? 'Cause if it can be part of the Trans-Canada, then Sask 11 between Regina and Saskatoon deserves the same status.

BTW, great job on the whole CJ. ;)

gsmith99 : Highway 2 upgraded? Trans Canada is a highway not a highway status. Aswell Highway 2 is the busiest Highway in Canada.

Actually, the Yellowhead highway (16) was upgraded several years ago -- it's now a branch of the Trans Canada. The main Trans-Canada, though, is still 1, which runs through Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, etc. On your map, you have 2 with the Trans Canada shield, when it should be an Alberta shield -- UNLESS they've decided to make it part of the Trans-Canada system. 16 is now co-signed with both the Trans-Canada and Yellowhead shields.

TheJerseyDevil, I am simply amazed at the work you have done. I wish to start my own Edmonton project at SCC as well. :) Oppie created the Edmonton busses by my request. :)

I wish that there were some Edmonton B.A.Ts as well. I like how you used the Globe Arena for the Odyssium. The river valley and the north saskatchewan river are amazing as well.

West Edmonton Mall would be a toughy to do. It would require a HUGE lot or at least a few lots stuck together. Keep up the good work!
