This is one of the things I find annoying about the trains in SC4. The freight trains are short, the passenger trains are too long. I mean, you never see passenger trains with 15 cars
----------------------------------------------------------

Sydney is a differant network to america and the uk....sydney is a suburban service where the trains on sim city 4 are for more long distance (countrylink in your case), the suburban type trains on sim city 4 are the subway's and el train....and also london underground trains are roughly 10 carriages in length and other ppl will be able to back me up but i think the new york underground is roughly 10 aswell

One thing people should never do is ask me what I'll do next because I don't know until I do it. Here's proof.

    GrampaAl blushes.

Golly gee! I guess I'll have to put this on my shelf with the rest of my N Scale collectables.

    Thanks, Trolca

HEY! From now on (unless otherwise asked), I will post my roadname ideas on this thread. I have more in Dearnen's thread, New Railroads Arrive in SimCity here:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=41015&pageNo=5&num=&sessionID=134670CF6E9F495F9CD1F0A94872DE99

I plan to start posting AGAIN this weekend.

P.S. If the hyperlink doesn't work, feel free to change it. I don't mind, just be sure to say if you did so I'll know if I made a mistake.

I have a very happy announcement to make:

I squashed the Frequent Short Freight Trains automata bug!!! I'm testing my patch right now, but it seems to be work fine. Will post it soon, pending final testing and a courtesy-call to DarkMatter.

    The major features are:
    * Freight trains will not appear shorter than 32 cars, even at the station.
    * Passenger trains now hold up to 200 passengers per car, giving 10-car trains at maximum 2000-sim capacity. They will, however, go up to 16 cars if your usage goes over 3000 sims.
    * Trains leave the station and rumble through town at a reasonable 55kPH/35MPH or so. As a bonus, this gives time for the crossing gates to go down and traffic to clear the crossing before the train gets there. Bad news is, this seems to affect the elevateds and passenger trains also. There's a setting for light rail speed that should let the elevateds go faster, but it's being ignored. 7.gif
    * I brought car traffic and ped speeds back down to scale, to match well with the slower train speed. People and cars no longer flit about like Mario Andretti on amphetamines.
    * I made the trains appear much less frequently, as the longer length and slower speeds would have prevented anyone from ever crossing the tracks otherwise.

I'll keep testing, and keep you posted. So far it's looking good. If all goes well, look for it soon.

    Trolca,
I have seen a lot of your work with different train equipment and mods and I think that you are doing an outstanding job with them. If you have the time and it's not too much trouble could you make a CSX SD-40-2 engine and maybe a couple of helpers. These are very powerful engines that were designed to make the long runs with as many as 300 cars of heavy freight and ore but were consistantly used with 100 or less. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication.

Trains for Mars is still in the planning stage. I'm working on the Light Rail set but haven't made any headway.
I'll be working on custom member cars from time to time.

    Edit:
From other pictures I have, SD-40-2's appear to be larger and have six axles. It will take a little time to complete. As for helpers, there isn't a way to implement them in the game. If there was a way, then steam engines could have tender cars.

Sounds great! Just make sure the vehicle speeds still seem right. Can't have the avenues clogged with slow-moving cars. Maybe test the elevated rail more after you released a first version. If only we could regulate speeds on certain sections of track. 35 is good for city, but 50+ is the only one for the boonies!

I have released the first version of this mod.  It can be found in the thread Long Trains Mod! here on the Modding - Open Discussion forum.  It is attached to the first post.  There are some pictures in that thread to indicate its best use.  I'm very open to feedback, and I'm willing to tune it based on the responses.

It works pretty well - I'm not sure about the frequency at which trains appear, so as people respond to it, I might adjust that if needed.  And anything else that may come up - it's a by railfans, for railfans sort of thing. 1.gif

I too wish we could have variable speeds and make them accelerate out of the station and roll faster through the countryside.  Since freight traffic always originates inside the city limits in SC4, and the largest city is only 4km across, I figure even the current speed I'm using is rather optimistic, unless SimNation builds some really powerful diesels!

If you mean the Train Mod download in the Mods section, no. I need to get that updated. Any time I post a new mod, the mod itself is attached to the same post.

I will, I was sort of waiting for some one to comment on the last one.

I'm not sure why you posted this. I think everyone has a right to be proud of their national origin including myself. I'm a citizen of the United States of America and I am proud of it. No country is perfect including mine but I feel what's right with it by far out weighs what's wrong.

I'm not posting this to start any debates. I am asking that people posting here, focus on the purpose of this thread.

It's just my signature..and have nothing to do with any topic..

As for the European cars, I'd love to see more of them in my cities..

But whatever engines and cars you come up with, I'll download them. You're doing an excellent job!!
