Does industry affect commercial office demand?

up to my knowledge,  the chain

high tech<-->r$$$ and r$$--> co$$ and co$$$

always works.

But here is my question, is industry a must have, ie, is

 r$$$ @ r$$ <--> co$$ & co$$$

self sustainable?

I know one can always create all-industry neighbour cities to make a non-industry city, but is industry a prequisite in the first place?

Also I read from forum somewhere R$ is crucial for co$$$, R$ will affext co demand, no R$, no skyscrapers, is that true?

Thanks for ur help in advance!

Yes in theroy you cold make an industry free city, but then you would have people going to that neighbor city for jobs and not all the commercial jobs would br filled, becuse sims tend to fill up the industry jobs first.

R$ is crucial for C$$$ they both have to work toghter, after R$ devlops it will become R$$ and C$$ and a few C$$$ jobs will appear, then R$$$ will devolp form there and you will start to get some full blown C$$$ skyscrapers, but at that point R$ is no longer required, it is just required to get you to that point.

The demands affect each other, when job demand is high there will be a high housing demand, becasue people will want to move in to get thoose jobs, and if housing demand is high job demand will soon follow as thoose sims move in, the are self sustaning.

There are R$ skyscrapers, low welath tennants will devolp if you do not improve the quality of a certian area, but people keep moving in. They can be easily replaced by zonig more or by inproving the aura (quality of the area ex, good protection, schools, hospitals, many parks etc)

Hope this helps and welcome to Simtropolis

    thanks for ur help and prompt reply.

    Unfortunately, I am a bit confused about ur answers. I guess I did not express my questions clear enough (blame my poor English), let me put them in another way:

    1, Once I get enough R$$ and R$$$, and they are well educated, Can I now bullzone all my industries, and provide jobs (and continue expanding city) with solely commercial office and commercial service? (assume there is no neighbour city around)

    2. As you said, It is quite common after a few years, R$ will become R$$ and eventually R$$$ since they are now educated and find better jobs. So eventually all my populations in this city are rich or middle class sims, Does this affect co $$$ demand? do I have to build slums in neighbou city to reach sckyscrapers?

    Thanks again

    1. Probably. Well-educated $$ and $$$ demand some High Tech industry, but mostly they demand commercial. So you can probably get away with zero industry. If your growth does start to stall the first thing to try would be zoning for HT, though.

    2. No. Rich commercial can do without $ sims.

    Your game cannot live without R§.  Janitors have to come from some where.  A §§§ office building offers about 10% §§§ jobs, 70% §§ jobs and 20% § jobs.  Somebody has to take out the trash, run the photocopiers, and flip burgers in the fast food stand in the lobby.

    Think balanced.  If your city gets out of whack, you will eventually get so skewed that your R§§§ will bail out because they can't find jobs.  Everyone can't conduct the orchestra.

    You could get away with having all the R$ residents in a neighbouring city.

    I think you might be right, N_O_Body. I bullzoned a skyscraper which contains 6000 R$ sims today, and my co$$$ demand drop to bottom immedietaly. That can only be explained by what u said, I guess.

    Not really. R$ sims actually demand some CO$$$ at the higher EQ levels, so of course eliminating R$ drops CO$$$ demand. While N_O is correct that a diverse city is healthiest and easiest to maintain, it is also true that CO$$$ doesn't need R$ workers to stay happy.

    A city, even if all C$$$ does need R$ workers, and they have to come from somewhere. I did an experiment myself, where I had one city that was going all-rich, so I taxed out the R$s and bulldozed neighboring R$ connections. Guess what...everything abandoned or depressed within a very short time. If you want a city to sustain itself by itself, then N_O_Body is right on with his advice about being balanced. If you want a rich city only, as Constantina says, build a neighboring city next door for the janitors with good cheap transportation connections.

    I never even known that High tech jobs goes first... speaking of this, everytime I've place an high tech jobs or medium industry, the enviorment drops down. I tried parks but nothing seems to work.

    I-M pollutes, so unless you keep them to a far corner or use a air-pollution reducer, you're gonna have environment problems. Trees and parks do help, but only to a small degree. If the only thing around is more I-M, it shouldn't be an issue. If you have R or HT, then the pollution could cause them to depress. You may want to try a lot of subway, as this will take down the traffic pollution substantially.
