I am collecting the set of "MY SIM" icons (like car, bus, etc) that are used in the game. I want to do a little "tutorial" on these at a future date for use on ST. I have been doing this by just watching the screen and when one pops up that I haven't seen, I capture it and save to a pic's file. It occured to me that these icons MUST be stored in one or more SC4 files. Is anyone aware of how these are stored, what format they may be in, which file they may be in, and how to "look at" them? Would a tool such as ILive Reader do this? Anyone who has insight into this, I'd appreciate your help. This seems to be the right forum.. If it isn't let me know where to put it.. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The icons may be in a PNG format. In most cases, it is in the SimCity_1.dat file.

Constantina is right.

By the way, why are there like 6 pages of cars for each mysim when only the first one is filled? Can you add more of them?

They probably just didn't code the page to expand based on the number of cars found, so they gave themselves leeway.

As to whether it can be used? Almost deffinitely, though I'm not an automata guy.

Well I really appreciate the answers! Thanks... No one mentioned how to look at or capture them tho.. perhaps they thought it is too elementary, but I'm a novice at using most of the "files" tools in SC4. Anyone who can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

In iLive's Reader you can set a filter to only view the PNG files in each DAT you open... and I think there is an export option as well. Just open each SimCity_*.dat, set the filter, and look until you find what you're looking for.
