Hello all!
I'm making a return to Simcity... long overdue as I played the 1989 original... Things have changed quite a bit it seems! Its because of this that I'm looking for some advice on a nice set of mods, both for ease of play and aesthetics, and some insights as to what works/does not work between cities within a region, city layout etc.
I've tried a few cities, more just experimenting - I've found that building fast can get some high populations, but not really the stability that I’m looking for. Example, I built out a medium sized city tile with about 85% Argicultural/12% Residential/3% Commercial and had about 3k population in 5-10 minutes. I placed some roads to 'Simnation' (guessing the defacto neighbor when there is no city on the next tile yet). Is it prudent to build zones that are entirely agriculture? What are the basic layout considerations when building a city next to an all Ag zone? Even just some direction to an online source of some sort would be great - I'm very eager to start build a thriving metropolis...
Thanks!
Jim

Well before everyone else says it, I guess I will. When it comes to Mods, the must have is the Network Addon Mod, or NAM. It includes some amazing additions for transit options, such as:

*GLR or Ground Light Rail, basically trolly tracks

    *Diagonal Streets

    *Roundabouts

    *Custom Highway Pieces

    *Turning Lanes for Avenues/Roads

    *Fixes pathfinding bugs

    Find it here:

    Enjoy your stay here! 9.gif

The way i find easiest appart from downloading all the official patches(including the very elusive Bat-patch) and Downloading NAM(which shoud be considerd an official patch)

just browse around the STEX, anytime you want a new trainstation you come and find one, want some skyscrapers, well, download them when you want and need them.

Otherwise you will end up with a pluginsfolder with a gizzilion of things in(as you will eventually anyway...) which severly slows the game down(im talking 1-2-3gb of plugins, so that takes some time to accumilate).

Ah, and welcome to the wonderful world of Sim City 4(000 as i think it should have been) and even more so, welcome to the Forums.

heres a list of more mods that i consider essential to the beauty of the game:

NAM, a terrain mod (colmbus terrain by cycledogg my fav), a water mod (changes color of water), PEGs alternate railway set mod (gets rid of rails ugly diagonals), road top mass transit (allows subways and bustops on roads), and bridge height mod (allows you to build bridge with no slope).

There are plenty of other great mods out there, too!
