I've visited London recently, and walking in the streets amongst the people was a wonderful thing to hear - loads of people speaking in different languages. quote>

There is 2 million inhabitants in the inner Paris, 6.7 million in the dense core, 10 million in the urban area and 12 million in the metropolitan area.

There is also a lot a language spoken in Paris since it is a very multicultural city, but we haven't stat.

Walking in many street we heard more chinese, arab or english than french..

- There is no architectural style associated with London, as there are too many. Ranging from the Victorian and Edwardian style buildings such as St Pancras to modern styles such as the famous "Gherkin", City Hall and One Canada Square. The way how older buildings are mixed with newer ones creates a great skyline.quote>

Paris is assiociated at an architectural style (even if most buildings in Paris are not Haussmannian) but it don't change that the city is architectural diverse with a better skyline.

- The next few years, especially 2008, will be a golden age for London, with Shard London Bridge, the Bishopsgate Tower, the Riverside South Towers to name a few expecting construction. quote>

The construction of Generalli tower the tallest skyscraper in western Europe should start in 2008...

- When you think of London, you think of Tower Bridge, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliment, the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Trafalgar Square...sorry, I could go on and on.4.gif The city boasts a huge number of internationally recognised landmarks.quote>

Eiffel tower, Louvre, Notre dame, Champs Elysees, Sainte Chapelle, Invalide....

The city has also been through plague, civil war, fire, extensive bombings in the Blitz and terrorist attacks, yet it is still standing. quote>

French revolution, La commune civil war

Paris  was maybe not heavly bombed in the WWI and WWII, but it was bombed.

It has surviving at numberous terrorist attacks (Something like one every month) in the 80's and in the middle of the 90's.

Don't forget the riot since the 1980's.

- Transport is a big thing in London. Of course we all know about the Tube - the subway system is the world's first metro system. Of course, there is still the recognisable buses and black taxi cabs. Heathrow Airport is the busiest in the world in terms of international passengers. quote>

Paris is the busiest subway system in western Europe even if it is 2 times smaller than London underground,

RER riderships is close to the Tube.

Paris CDG is second in term of international passengers.

Paris has a high traffic of international trains (Eurostar, Thalys TGV, ICE...)

This isn't all the good points of course. But all this, and a certain acquaintance of mine hates London because it is "too busy".17.gifquote>

Unlike the false stereotype, Paris is busier than London. 2.gif

I would like to point out that many Parisians have jumped to Defense of their city (pun intended)...While London seems more widely defended by people who have visited it.

It seems Parisians are very ready to defend their city with words...Londoners, however, have defended their city physically. 3.gif

It looks like this is set to run and run. Let's face it - both are of equal importance. If your looking for nightlife, entertainment or shopping, go to London. If you like something more of a European feel and more suited for a family vacation, go to Paris. And they both have their fair share of bad points aswell such as crime.

Both are really great cities, although I prefer London more as I always have my British pride. But at least this isn't a New York vs. London thread - can't imagine what would turn out from that!

Yeah actually I m french, and the most increadible point : I live in Montrouge. 9.gif

Some picture of Parisian life taken by me.

People often forget that Paris is a big working city with over 10 millions inhabitants.

Paris is not a park for tourist, people who thinks this have a very wrong vision of the city. It is a vribrant, growing and moving city

Paris has several faces, it is far to be only the 7th arrondissement, most parisian don't go in these districts.

I don't think that Paris need to be beautiful for been interresting and I think that the beauty of Paris hide more interresting face of this city. 1.gif

In another way I don't understand people who find London ugly.

This city is so interresting and beautiful.

Busy, multicultural diverse, so London is the Paris of non continental Europe or Paris is the London of continental Europe. 9.gif

These pictures was not taken by me.

I have been to Paris, London, and New York City.

New York City is the best 'city', because it has many different kinds of people and infusions of culture.

Paris, between Paris and London, is better to visit, and more pleasant. I have 'seen all the sites' in Paris and London, and, to be quite honest, I find London to be a bit boring. Paris just has this feel to it that makes it better then London, in my opinion.

Yeah, I stayed in the Regents Palace in Piccadilly Circus when I was is London and honestly,, only a handful of the people I walked past (and overheard talking) spoke English, and even they were either Police officers, street sweepers or Celebrities (Robbie Coltrane anyone? lol)... the rest were either of an ethnic minority or Tourists. I was even approached by a bunch of Aussies who thought I worked there (doing what? feeding pigeons?)

I've never been to Paris (I've been to France though and it was wonderful), but my brother has... he told me it was horrible, everywhere he went he got ambushed by blokes trying to flog him shoddy model Eiffel Towers.

I'd probably say its the tourists thats a victim of its success more than anything... because Paris has a supercell of landmarks near its centre, tourist rarely leave the core... apart from to bugger off to Disney Land for a day. In London however, the Landmarks are spread out over a wide area so people, as their travelling along, see more of the sights and take in more of the city... unless they take the Tube of course... all they see then is a tunnel filled with tiles that smells faintly of urine, constantly paranoid that the homeless guy next to them is a terrorist (acctually, thats not funny... somebody I know had a Panic Attack on the Tube because of the paranoia)...

Paris is a great city though... I just want to reflect on one of the images from a couple of pages back-

446746508_6d867c5765_b.jpg

I mean, thats just fantastic. If it were any other continent on Earth, a city like this would be obscured 5 meters infront from Smog... and it it were Britain the river would be clogged with Shopping trolleys.

Well, thats a given, since London is the Capital City and home to everything the government wants to spend money on. I'd still think twice about swimming in it... i've seen scannings of the riverbed, its covered in shipwrecks, concrete blocks, old cars etc...

jayo-whats there to expand on? for the most part london is ugly as [Edited for language] Marc but it is a much greater city. I don't judge cities by how they look, unless we talk about skylines. London IMO is a greater city because if I am right, it is growing faster, has a larger population, more industry, more diversity, more landmarks.

Paris is cool to look at but really IMO there is less to do, and if Im right it is growing quickly, but not as fast as london, has a smaller population (?), less industry, less diversity (although still alot) and less landmarks (although once again, still alot)

also, i associate London with masculine things and Paris with Feminine things 3.gif but thats just me.

El burro:I think they did some clean up at some point-Alot of people think its dirty but actually theres an increasing number of marine life coming back to London and the estuary. Also,do remmember that its running throung a capital city 9.gif

Patriots:I wouldn't say its ugly as [Edited for language].There are some lovelly parts of London-You just need to explore.Areas around camberwell, stockwell and waterloo south of the river are ugly but even then there are grand terraces in stockwell aswell as brixton,loughborough-Less so in Lougborough-These areas are all south of the river.I also don't agree with juging a city like London with its skyline-Although i'm saying you did this.London is about much more a skyline.etc

These three points in bold are wrong.

Paris is not financial depend city like London this economy is really diverse (Business, Finance, IT, industrial sector...) if I have not include tourism it is because it is only about 2% of Paris economy.

Paris is as diverse than London, it is the biggest African, East asian, Caribbean... european city. The only difference is that unlike UK, ethnical census are forbidden in France.

This point is really funney because France is more ethnically diverse than UK.

Do you know that there is over 6,000 asian restaurants in Greater Paris ?

Less Landmark is also wrong, most landmark are unknow by the tourist (wich is not a really bad thing) Do you know the Saint Denis Basilica, Saint Germain castle, Sceaux castle ?

To be honest the beauty of Paris (Even if there is very ugly areas in Paris) hidde more interresting side of this city.

Tourity districts are some of less interresting districts of Paris.

I agree that a city is much more than a skyline but I love showing that Paris skysline is better than London one. 9.gif
